Hi there.

During today I have had random disconnections with my Internet when downloading a couple of torrents. I installed the final version of Internet Explorer 9 last night and so im thinking maybe that has something to do with it (Not sure how) or Telecom is starting to disconnect peoples connections when they download torrents?

However it could also be something to do with the weather? Maybe something isnt working like it should.

Anyway, has anybody been having disconnections tonight or just me?

Most likely a wiring issue.

Telecom are not interested in what you use the internet for. They have to pass infringement notices on to you by law now but they are not the ones detecting and generating notices... that's the copyright owner or their agencies monitoring public download sites/torrents.

YES, I have.

Modem has disconnected about three times tonight giving me that Thompson modem screen.

Damn annoying.... Yet when i go check it, all four lights seem to be on.

You'll be thrashing the router with too many concurrent connections so it drops the connection entirey. Go and buy yourself a decent modem or reduce the number of connections you're trying.

Our house disconnects 10+ times per day.
My mothers place is the same with random disconnects all the time.

I have given up watching youtube videos tonight as it was painful loading even when i dropped it down to 240p.

Internet is expensive and crap in this country.

99% of disconnects relate to poor internal house wiring or a poor quality modem.

What have you done to test these?

Speed could be a wiring issue or an ISP issue. Are you with Slingshot by any chance?

What basic tests have you performed? An isolation test? What are your sync stats? What type of modem do you have? Are you cabinetised?

There are lots of issues before you blame the ISP or the internet in general. Statistically speaking most DSL issues are related to house wiring.
