Will telecom be providing a steam cache now that steam has a new system sending content via HTTP?

According to Telstra, their steam cache will be open to all ISPs in Nz, but only unmetered to Telstra customers.
so if you are with Telecom (or anyone else) ten I guess you will ge the benefits of the faster cache, but not the unmetering.

Related question - Does Telecom cache HTTP at all, and if so, does this count towards our data usage?

If cached data did not count towards data caps, even without their own Steam cache, Telecom customers would get fast zero-rated Steam downloads, EDIT, as long as someone on Telecom had previoulsy accessed the content

Worth noting that at the moment only some select new content on steam is being served with the new method. 99% of content is still served the old fashioned way.

I'm new to Steam and was downloading a game last night - COD4, which I guess would be a couple of GBs worth at about 1.3Mb/s - but the usage meter doesn't seem to be going up be the same amount. With 5GB left of my cap and a week left of my allowance, I only donwloaded about a third of it last night, and a quarter early this morning.

Download usage meter hasn't gone up at all, whilst the upload counter is going up quite alot (no p2p)..

Anyone else getting this - is it the download packets being zero rated, but the acknowledgement (up) packets being counted ?

Does Telecom have a steam cache they haven't told us about?

Telecom have got to get on this bus. I LOVE steam (over 160 games on my account) and would love for a zero-rated service. I love the speed i get on Telecom DSL and this would absolutely cap off a great service!

I two would like to see an unmetered steam cache. But with the whole extra 20GB on our plan...It really doesn't matter for me. 60GB between 3 of us, all on Steam is plenty, plus the extra to last the rest of the month.

The last time I can attribute to the strange data usage reset lots of people got last month, around that date. Happened again though on 19th September when downloading Portal from Steam - again, took about an hour at 1.3Mb/s , the upload of acknowledging the Steam packets has been counted, but the download meter stubbornly refuses to increase.

Rats, my usage reset last night, so I can't see if my 2.xGB BC2 Steam update yesterday was counted.

Will try and find a large Steam Demo or movie to download, and see if it appears.

Left my pc on overnight and steam updated 2.6GB on BC2. Raped my t-stick completely.
Telecom really need to unmeter content especially if its cached.

Telecom have shown no sign that they will host a steam content mirror and un-metering traffic from it, not sure why you are thinking otherwise.

Would be nice if they did, I've been suggesting it for years.

Orcon, Telstraclear, Snap and Slingshot are hosting or in the process of hosting a steam content mirror on their networks for their users now. Given the popularity of Steam it makes sense.
