I bought a HUAWAI HG556A vodafone router off trademe and was told that I can change some settings and use it to connect to the telecom network. I found another post on this site but it was a bit vague and I cant quite work out how to do it. I went into the 192.168.1.1 menu and used the username: vodafone and password: vodafone. When in there I tried changing the details when I found them to "myusername"@xtra.co.nz and my own password but it didn't seem to do it. I also just tried user@xtra.co.nz and the password abc123 but still no joy :-( If anyone can help me do this it would be really appreciated, I could imagine that if I called telecom and asked them they would just try to sell me one of their routers

Ok, still no joy. I found ftp server parameters and put in the details but I still cant seem to connect to the internet with it. Is this the right place to put the details in? I don't know if there is any more details I need to complete on the computer but I am connected to the wifi, just not to the internet

have you seen this thread: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=39&topicid=79797

THEN, you need to find where the username and password for the internet are and change them to user@xtrabb.co.nz with a password of abc123 (I don't think it matters what password you use, I have used that one and password with no issues). Then you need to save the settings and you are good to go.

If you're not connecting with that user/password, have you even got an ADSL link up? I.e. does the ASDL stats page show you are "connected" as in this screenshot: http://screenshots.portforward.com/Vodafone/HG556a/Statistics_ADSL.htm
