I have an SGS running on Telecom XT - tonight I sent myself a txt (long story) at 6:30pm and when I received it seconds later it appeared in the message thread on my phone 'before' the sent one with a time stamp of 5:47pm . . . any thoughts as to why?

Taking a stab in the dark......

you have manually set the time & date on your device, while the SMS will have network operator date & time stamp

Good try but the time is network set and the send time is confirmed by multiple sources.

Just did another test as when I had the issue the txt had an attachment, so just sent myself one with no attachment and it came through immediately with send and receive time being the same BUT then sent one with a photo attached and it arrived 40min before I sent it (according to the time on the txt)

..... go figure, the attachments seem to travel back in time!!!!

yes quite aware you can set the device to automatically pick the time up off the network, however this can also be manually overridden :)

adding the attachment will change the sending format from SMS to MMS, will also change the charging structure too. So its actually two different message formats that you are talking about.

can confirm, as you have, that SMS type messages have the correct time & date stamp

while MMS have the 40 minutes in the past date & time stamp

just sent myself an MMS & have experianced the past date & time

On my HTC Desire if i receive a text within the same minute of sending one, it gets placed before it. Carrier timestamps are enabled and work correctly, it could just be a software thing, perhaps Telecom's timestamps dont have seconds in them or something
eg
send message 12:23:15 --> 12:23:15 on phone
reply message 12:23:50 --> 12:23:00 on phone
Just a guess.

edit: seems to be the case, pinging texts back and forth to 333, if i sent one right at the end of the minute so the reply comes back the minute after, its the right order, but if i send it at any other time, the behavior above is the result.
