Hi

I am looking at buying a new phone and want to use it on the XT network, I have looked through some of the forums saying that it will work on the XT network but i just want to double check.

The specifications are as follows:

2G Network GSM 850/900/1800/1900
3G Network HSDPA 850/900/1700/ 2100

If any one can tell me if this will work on the XT network that would be much appreciated!

This will work just fine - providing this is the spec in the box. Don't follow the spec from websites.

What manufacturer/model?

Im just a bit curious as it is one of the only phones of its kind that seems to work with XT, do you know of any reason why there aren't other phones like it that work with XT? Also is their any other places to buy good XT phones as i have been looking but the telecom website has a really limited range of phones.

Just remember it's the 3G specs that matter, Telecom doesn't have a 2G network. GSM 850 isn't the same as HSDPA 850.

You need HSDPA (Some times also listed as WCDMA or UMTS) 850 and 2100 though if there's no 2100 you probably won't miss not having it, as 2100 is only used as infill in the major cities, whereas 850 is everywhere.

I agree, Telecom's selection of phones is pretty poor.

I'd ask the seller for proof before buying it because I don't believe those specs.

There are no references anywhere online to quad band UMTS P970's. The 850MHz model doesn't do 900MHz UMTS, and the US model that also supports 850MHz isn't branded as a P970 and also doesn't do 900MHz.

As was mentioned (for Telecom) the reason is that:
"You need HSDPA (Some times also listed as WCDMA or UMTS) 850 and 2100"

vodafone use 900 and 2100 on their 3G network (and GSM)
2 degrees use 2100 (and GSM)

So as 900 and 2100 seem to be very commonly used frequencies for 3G overseas there are HEAPS of parallel imported/cheap phones that will work on 2 degrees/vodafone.

I could only guess as to why Telecom went with 850/2100 which seems world wide to be a lot less common on handsets - perhaps its just that the markets where the parallel goods tend to come from use 900/2100Mhz.

Maybe the 850 frequency works better on our terrain? Anyway it means that there isnt much competition in the Telecom capable handsets here unfortunately.

I expect it probably tends to cost them customers because of the lack of choice/competition...

I bought the exact same from that trader. His specs are not accurate. The phone is next g Telstra branded for Australia.

I just looked on the box and the specs are

gsm 850/900/1800/1900
wcdma 850/1900/2100.

the model is LG-P970h

Probably because Vodafone already had the 900 frequencies or perhaps Telecom had the 800 frequencies.

I think you're right it does cause a lack of choice. Anything for the North American WCDMA/HSDPA/UMTS market will work as will anything for the Telstra WCDMA (I think they call it Next Gen) market will work as well
