Does anyone know if I can use the above mentioned modem in New Zealand if I were to purchase a NZ Telecom SIM card?

why don't you call telstra and find out? or try whirlpool forums (the aussie geekzone)

Providing the device isn't SIM locked there is no technical reason why it won't work. Most operator branded devices sold in Australia are SIM locked however, so you would need to find out the answer to that first.
