I have just ordered a AT&T fuze. Because I haven't seen the posibility of releasing a 850mhz touch pro2 in NZ. The link above said it will be released to verizon and sprint, not AT&T! So we will be out of luck, because we don't want CDMA version anymore. To be honest, CDMA network in the US are much better in coverage and service than HSPA there(T-mo, AT&T) Is evdo not better than hsdpa here for many years in NZ? Pocketnow told me that a modified version of pro2 will be released, but nobody knows when that will happen.

I think you will find that changes soon enough, At&T are opening up 850mhz UMTS across their foot print at HSPA especially for the Iphone due June / july & they are introducing HSPA+ as well later this year. CDMA is still a big player there but now that Verizon & Sprint are introducing LTE things may change there also.

If you look at the Next G example in Aussie, when a UMTS network is done well it can produce excellent results, coverage & speed for example.

EVDO has been excellent for Telecom, coverage wise & speed / reliability. This is because of the locations it was installed, the backhaul that was available & the fact that it is a robust system.
However UMTS HSPA for Telecom will offer that plus so much more for Telecom, the speed already is better than Rev A at launch, the back haul is fibre based in 13+ cities based on info from another poster & the handsets, they speak for them selves.

Well I'm going for the budget old R6 for $150. Seems an mp3 player and 2mb camera is pretty reasonable for the price, and it's only gonna be used for $10 text so ideal.

I also think it's pretty disappointing that these phones only support xt-only video calls. Is it a technical thing or a choice of telecoms?

I think this could answer your question:

Telecom: Telecom BoostTXT and $10TXT are only available on Telecom CDMA mobiles.

Of course there will be TXT plans on the new network so don't worry.

Does anyone know what the important differences are between the Sierra Wireless 885U and Telecom MFM636 USB sticks apart from the label and the price?

$200 extra seems quite a lot if they basically do the same thing???

For me I know Sierra Wireless make a good product, not so sure about ZTE and their data cards but it's likely to be ok.

Of course it will be interesting to see the subsidy's offered on both devices with respect to plan and term.

Those are the current T+C on that page, which may/probably will change once the full XT plans are released next week. Which is not to say $10TXT will be included, but it doesn't deduce that it will be excluded either. Just nit-picking; of course there will be some form of TXT plan under XT, as you say.

Any idea how long the plans are away from being released. Nice to know the phones, but it is only part 1 of a 2 part puzzle!

unlocked AT&T fuze. Yes. They told me it's a unlocked. It will arrive next Wednesday. But hspa can't beat evdo's latency. :-)

Yep. I'll be hanging out for those details.

Even at $199 unsubsidised price and presumably with a 100MB for $10 per month then $1 per day for 10MB similar to Vodafone's plan, the ZTE data stick is quite attractive for casual use.

I remember a meeting with a big Vodafone client and Vodafone, and the marketing director at the time was giving us a tour of their new building opposite vic park and he said that Vodafone's pricing was not on a 'cost based structure'

Think about that for a second :) What other industry doesn't take the cost into acount when working out how much to sell a product or service for hehe
