I'm guessing you may bring out a voice product in future too? As the routers are locked down to 4G, this won't happen until sometime after Spark launch VoLTE.

Just my speculation of course, but I would be very surprised not to see this in future :)

RBI has a voice option offered by spark and vfone and other providers.

Vodafone RBI has voice option, Spark currently does not - they currently just bundle the copper landline into the deal.

@coffeebaron (or someone who has a modem) would you mind checking something in the Skinny modem UI if you still have yours?

Does it have the DDNS UI as per the manual? Or have Skinny removed this?

Also, if you feel inclined, would you mind seeing if the modem works with the Huawei HiLink app? Thats the name on Play not sure if its the same on iOS.

yeah, people are very odd.

Even when none of the (somewhat) legitimate reasons for wanting a landline would actually apply here

(e.g. copper 'reliability', copper 'quality', works when power is down, etc)

Ironically if you had a power cut, your Skinny broadband (and associated voice) would actually stop working, but you know what would continue to work?

Some people still want a 'home' phone. One that stays home. They don't care what technology it uses. Not everybody lives in mobile coverage. Where I'm staying right now has a home phone 'landline' via RBI, the mobile coverage is negligible to nil, especially inside.

Just did some number crunching then; it's around 30GB short of where it would need to be to get me to move over to Skinny broadband. If Skinny came up with a 20GB for $15 add on back then it would make it accessible to me and for a lot of others but unfortunately right now the add on cost is too high.

Skinny isn't RBI
If you can get coverage for skinny broadband then you have coverage for skinny mobile.
And as for a phone you leave at home, well you can do that with a mobile if you really want to.

If they don't care what technology they use, why the demand for a 'landline' when a mobile phone is better in every concievable way? (When considering skinny mobile)

Why are people weird who want a landline?? Just because you can't see any point of it doesn't make it law that landlines are banded..

weird because, in the context of a Skinny Broadband customer, there is no rational reason that I can think of why you would want one.

Would love to hear a reason though. AFAIK the 'standard' reasons for wanting a landline don't really apply here as per my previous post.

(who said anything about law? I'm simply expressing my opinion that adding a 'landline' voice service onto skinny broadband would be utterly pointless)

Because: old people. Lots of old people will NOT call a mobile. It is entrenched in their psyche by the Telecom of old and the TSO.
