tchart: @coffeebaron (or someone who has a modem) would you mind checking something in the Skinny modem UI if you still have yours? Does it have the DDNS UI as per the manual? Or have Skinny removed this? Also, if you feel inclined, would you mind seeing if the modem works with the Huawei HiLink app? Thats the name on Play not sure if its the same on iOS. Thanks

You can manage DDNS via the modem portal. It is under the Security section.

Yes you can use the Huawei HiLink app with the Skinny Broadband modem. It lets you manage your modem in the same way as logging on via a browser at http://192.168.1.254. You can manage your modem settings, see how many devices are connected and set up a usage meter to track your usage on your mobile device.

Beat me to it :)

Skinny does use CG-NAT, so no good for any port forwarding etc.

Got the modem yesterday. Same thing. Gaming is a no go. Latency is low at around 30, but gaming is no good. So I have to give up gaming. Lol. Signal is bad only 2 bars. But speed is around 30mb down, 7mb up. Not too bad. But worse than I expect. 2talk works good. Where can I buy a external antenna? Do they work or not ?

Wow. These antenna cost more than the modem itself. I don't want to dig so deep as I don't want to spend so much more on the modem. Then my VDSL is way cheaper and more reliable.

Quick question; if the 4G signal isn't strong does it fall back to 3G? the reason why I ask is I had a check of gis.geek.nz and according to that map there is no 4G cell site in Stokes Valley but the Skinny address checker says that you're able to use it in Stokes Valley - is gis.geek.nz out of date or can Skinny Broadband fall back to 3G?

When your 60GB runs out, purchase another 60GB / 30 days = 20GB for $18.33

Cool, seems like a good plan.

Some people still want a "landline"

Just use a VOIP on the connection, et voila you have your "landline". Works brilliant over 2 degrees 4G (and even good 3G connections).

NO, router does 4G only.

Our spark 4G tower lost its 4G one afternoon when I went to see how my friend was getting on with his new spark RBI.
Since my lte phone was only getting 3G I expected his RBI to not be working but it was.
On the 3G network at 3G speeds
The 4G came back on later.
So I suppose the same would be for skinny if the 4G crashed

Interesting. I have looked at a Spark B315 and can not see anyway to disable 4G. Would be interesting to know if it does in fact drop to 3G if it is only able to drop to 2100, or if these do actually have 3G 850 band.

I suspect - and John as well - this IMSI is locked to 4G only or the HLR is configured to only accept connections coming over 4G.

I'll have a play with a few SIMs when I get a chance. They do appear to have different firmware between the Spark and Skinny B315's. E.G. the Skinny box has a selectable option for antenna settings, but the Spark one that I've seen does not. Could be related to ISMI. I'll post back more when I get some time.
