Had another look at the bill and I think I've mostly figured it out.
The broadband part in previous bills was paid in after it was used, but is now paid in advance, so I've 2 1/2 months of broadband to pay in one go by the looks of it.

I signed up for the new 40GB plan and was offered uncapped or capped.
I went for uncapped of course - but guess what - I've been capped.

Trying to get it sorted is a nightmare - all of the telecom call people have no idea about the new plans and tell me all they can do is "email someone"!

If any telecom ppl lurk this form please pm me...thanks :)

From my experience of trying to sign up the only staff that can/know how to sign you up to the plan are based in Christchurch and are not the normal call staff. When they called me yesterday the lady said they had just been moved out of their usual office due to the most recent earthquake causing the building to be unsafe. I would say this is just making things more difficult. So i still have not been transferred back to telecom im just waiting for a call back, again.

Having switched to Total Broadband I received a larger than expected bill which i queried. Their reply was

"Thank you for your email regarding your Total Home broadband package.

Like all our home line plans Total Home has a part adjustment charge of one month in advance. Your first account will show charges for Total Home from the date of connection to the end of your billing period plus one full month in advance; this will mean your first Total Home account will be higher than normal.

In addition, your broadband plan is charged as a whole month at the start of your broadband usage period. Any plan changes made during this time will not show on your account until your next broadband usage period.

What this means for you is, your first Total Home account may show additional broadband plan charges for your old broadband plan. These charges will be credited back to your account under the rental and activity section of your next bill.

I would like to apologise for any confusion this may have caused."

I hope this may put peoples' minds at ease :)

It shouldn't be sent if you already have one. It's a tad confusing because it claims if you're open term you remain open term so they shouldn't send you one if you don't have one already- perhaps it will only be open term if you are an existing broadband customer.. if you're on contract you remain on contract for the remainder of the term

i got changed over earlier today and my broadband connection actually stopped working. I had to turn my router off and on again. has anyone else had to turn their router off and on again once they've changed to this plan?

^^ What's the make and model of your fridge? Does it vibrate when it turns its compressor on? Anyone know why my fridge runs 1°c colder than the ambient temperature of the house?

Routers need rebooting. Esp mine. It doesn't like me much like my fridge.

And just remember, it's a replacement to your existing plan, not an addition Wink

my router has been on for 2 months without causing me any problems, then all of a sudden i change my plan and the router stops working, so that's why I'm wondering if all broadband plan changes require a router reboot or is this not the case for you?

Never had to change plans, I know what I use each month and stay on the plan that suits me.
If your internet stops working, always reboot the modem.
