I found a easy fix for me last week. Add another 0 to port 5060, lol, so easy. My iTalk works well now, incoming calls OK for a few days, no problems. I don't know about my 2talk , its registered on the modem, but I don't use it, so I don't know if it works or not.
Or you can try 5060 --- 5070, or whatever voip port. And Please post the results here. I tried everything else, but nothing works, except this method.

Interesting. 2talk allow registration on 50600 which would place it above the SIP ALG. I was wondering this morning if that would work. I suspect changing the SIP AGL port may acheve the same result. I will try it soon. Thanks for sharing.

Incoming calls are fine. Its just that its annoying to have occational call drop, because of loss of VoIP connection. I think CG nat breaks it , then calls get dropped.

tchart: Is there a limitation on service locations for this product? The Skinny address checker says negative to both addresses I put in but the Spark 4G coverage map shows good/fair coverage for both addresses.

I was trying the tool for a couple of locations that are in a block of units.

Entering the main address will show that Skinny Broadband is unavailable.

But starting to enter the main address, then looking down, you get some of the unit addresses showing up, and Units A, B, C, D, E, J and K were listed and these all showed Success!

But the other units were not found. Supposedly it was because they don't receive postal mail, however at least one of them does....Work around is apparently to use a unit number that does allow the service and then change the delivery address to the correct unit.

I would like to try Skinny Broadband as it seems likely that it would provide a faster upload than adsl.

But the address checker says it is not available in South Titirangi, and the coverage map shows there is zero 4G coverage on either 1800 or 700 band.

It shows a good strength signal along the cliff edge along the Manukau Harbour, and an abrubt drop to no coverage. There are a few houses at the edge of the harbour that can get Skinny Broadband according to the tool, but there is apparently a impenetrable wall at the cliff edge that prevents the signal from travelling inland at all. Skinny support confirmed that we should have no 4G signal at our place.

But this is rather strange, since I frequently get a 4G signal on my 2Degrees phone from a tower near Mangere Mountain (about 11km line of sight), and there is a Spark 4G tower just near there...

So, a trip down to the shop to by a Skinny sim, top it up, buy a data plan and chuck it in the phone. In very little time it had acquired a 4G signal, mostly 4 bars, once got to all 5 bars(outside). Cell signal app said it was connecting to three towers with CellIDs of 13254944, 13163297 and 15106080 (all LAC 1501). The last one is Auckland Airport, the other two I couldn't find info on. Speedtest results were 19/12, 22/9, 20/7 and similar results, at one point even had it showing about 30 down during the test.

So another call to Skinny Support only to be told my phone must be using 3G as well, and the modem will not work at our place, there is no 4G coverage! They were unable to tell where the cliff edge properties were being serviced from for their coverage maps.

Can anyone explain why a line of sight 4G signal will work reasonably well on a cell phone, but apparently not at all on a modem? Also, why a signal some 60m above sea level, would also get stopped by the coastline at sea level rather than continuing unobstructed to the ridge line above?

Modem arrived and have only tried two locations so far.

Download speeds over 6 tests 22.38 to 40.79

Upload speeds over 6 tests 22.88 to 31.51

Ping 19 to 31.

Adsl here is 9.54 down, 0.73 up and ping 20 on last test....so looks like it should be an improvement!

would a family who had a farm up a valley and a batch on the beach 10klms away be able to take the skinny modem to either places.

if there was only one spark tower they could possibly connect to.

so it would be the same tower

So my modem arrived today, [thanks Paul!] and I was warned I was on the edge of the possible zone, but seem to have wildly disparate down/upload speeds?

On three separate tests in the last 15 mins, and even to different servers I have a decent 15Mb download, but rather pasty 0.54mb average upload?

Any idea why these would be so vastly different in speed?

If you are on the fringe coverage then you have to be prepared for these swings in performance.

hypothesising here, but could it be due to the relative power of the cell tower vs the device? Being on the fringe, downloads to the modem are simply receiving the signal that the tower is putting out with significant power behind it, whereas uploads means the modem has to push that signal back to the tower and it is much weaker hence the lower speed?

@Freitasm I realise my boundary zone placement might not get me the best results, and will play around with placement and such to hopefully increase the signal strength. No slight meant to skinny at all, but was just wondering at the wide disparity in speeds... Think @staticnz might have a good point at aerial strength effect? Could try some 5db 2.4ghz LAN aerials if they might help too? 😆

Hi guys i have just ordered my modem so will see how this works i am currently on adsl and get 2mbit down on a good day so with 2 of us using the net things dont work to well

now i do have one question you guys might have an answer or at least an opinion on the one issue for me will be if the 60gb is enough or if i will need to purchase 2 lots of 60gb if i end up needing 2 lots of 60gb packs

what do you guys think about this i am currently setting up a pfsense box so i was thinking i could buy another modem from skinny and load balance the 2 for increased bandwidth and data apart from the cost of another modem to me this seems like a good idea

what do you guys think?

my other option of course is to just buy another 60gb pack on the one modem

It really depends on how you use it. If you are using ethernet and need the speed then you might have to evaluate VDSL or fibre. If you don't have those options in your area then perhaps (if the coverage is good) the speed you get from LTE is enough for your needs. It really comes down to return over your costs there...

Hi VDSL or fibre will most likely never be an option at this address I'm not to worried about the speed anything would be better than my current adsl
It was more just if I end up needing more than 60gb and I have the gear to do it
So I thought load balancing would be a good way to get the 120gb and maybe a better connection at the same time
