kawaii:
Interleaving is enabled on some lines because the quality is horrible - I had continuous disconnections when interleaving was off - one of the things that annoys me is instead of this fibre what needs to be done is more exchanges, upgrading of existing infrastructure so that people can get around 10,000kbps connections.

Taking the piss right?

If not, I take your 10,000kbps and raise you..

(I don't want to start a pissing contest, just making it known cabinet rollout is in full swing in CHC)

Line Rate     15303 Kbps     166 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate     18692 Kbps     945 Kbps

Anyone else notice the 128K upstream has gone from 160 sync to 166 ;)

Of course.. you cant rely on that to be your max DL rate. Given the straws your cabinet is connected to the primary exchange Router/ETH with and all the others leeching your box hard.

Differences to Go Large? not sure, someone can compare whos on BigTime. Im on 125.238.2x.xxx range.
and 166k up sync (room for it to sniff packets more without impact? ;). And I suspect youtube magic cache of doom is applied allround.

I can now stream videos without a hitch.

I got interleaving turned off last night=20ms pings on NZ servers :)

My IP 125.238.252.13 big time

downstream 20402 kbps

upstream 963 kbps

Getting around 30KB/s on everything today.. pretty useless really. :(

In my case.. yes. As is TalkieT (with a higher syncrate)

NZ HTTP downloads can saturate my U/D to the point where IRC/MSN/IMs fall off. 1.1MB/s down stz

Today is my first day on big time, just moved over from pro. I am absolutely unimpressed.

I'm syncing to the exchange at 4785 kbps up, 931 down. My international speedtests are ridiculous: I'm getting way less than 1 Mbs to any international destination. These tests were taken at approx 2 pm nz time, no downloads going, my computer the only one connected. Tests taken yesterday were around 4 mbps up, .5 or so down to these same servers.

https://www.speedtest.net/result/513274407.png (note here my upload speed is higher than my download)

https://www.speedtest.net/result/513276018.png (upload and download are the same)

https://www.speedtest.net/result/513271018.png

I can't even surf properly with these speeds, pages are very slow to load. And I can't imagine what it's going to be like during the evening when more people are home.

Nationally is very good consistently, this is the best of the lot today.

I was hoping to get speeds like others who have posted here are getting, I would be very happy with that, but I am leaving this plan if this is what I can expect.

You did spot Raabs comments right?..

I think anyone switching to this plan should have 0 expectations of having usable internet between 9am-2am. If all you do is watch youtube and download nationally this plan will suit but anything outside of that or non cached then expect bad performance

More or less said in that page that if you want to browse.. forget it.

Yes Oblivian, I did see that, but I also saw that a lot of people were getting good speeds. I didn't have any reason to think I wouldn't since my speedtests are normally very good.

Any way to get youtube to stream as it takes forever to watch even a 3min clip.
I'm pretty sure it would run faster if I were on dial up atm.

Speedtest? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you changed based on previous results of it, oops!
Don't look into that as an accurate gauge. It can depend on your ISP peering (which xtra is not) and routes if I'm not mistaken too.

Im with most. Wait till theres stats of differnt times and Downloads as apposed to speed checks.

Sadly speedtest.com involves an HTTP transfer (like I say I can saturate on Go Large) which tells me I have a 10MB (800K/s +)  connection. Yet any other protocol/download its 50-100K/s. Given HTTP (if not all traffic) appears crippled on BigTime.. well. I guess everyone can draw their own conclusions.

Of course.. it's never been confirmed, but ISPs wouldn't ever dream of prioritising HTTP traffic, let alone some random URLs users can use to test connections with now... would they.

Try some of these for far end..
http://www.speedguide.net/speedtest/

I just went to speedtest from work. As expected, 87MB/s to the snap node (were just another node).
Yet to an international HTTP.. (and its meant to be 100MB local, 10MB intl) and realtime DLs of 200-600K/s
1216 kbps down (~1.22 Mbps, 148 KB/s) ↓
1032 kbps up (~1.03 Mbps, 126 KB/s) ↑

I registered just to say Big Time is... *slow*.

Just now I retested a download I did earlier in the week at about 350KB/sec, down to 12-15KB.

Suprised to see the Christchurch server that fast, this site feels slow and it's local.

Welcome to the site whitecat.

I'm guessing that this site is hosted outside of NZ as the posting dates are a day behind here, which would explain the slowness I also experience here. These speeds are crap, they're not even dial up. I understand it's shaped, but this is beyond shaping.

I can't even surf with any speed, and youtube is buffering, which it didn't do yesterday.

This isn't what I signed up for. I go back to the pro plan as of tomorrow.
