Why would a PABX tech bother locking down individual number ranges at the PABX, the call will just fail if the number is invalid, and it means someone has to keep updating the PABX dial plan every time they open up a new range of numbers.  When setting up PABX dialplans I would generally treat any 02 followed by 7-9 digits as mobile.

With number portability, it's kind of a moot point knowing which carrier has been allocated which range unless you have a LMNP database to lookup and to see whether the number has been ported to a different carrier...

johnr: I have seen this so many times over the years in Vodafone when new number ranges are opened up and the worse is international incoming calls

The problem at Vodafone is that no one seems to know what their numbering range is these days where as Skinny knows exactly what theirs are..

As already pointed out this INFO is on the NAD website

johnr: But it's your fault the mobile number can't be called from overseas and when you ask what network , What carrier they have no idea and not willing to get the INFO and yelled at just fix it

Vodafone's choice of having 9, 10 and 11 digit numbers didn't really do them any favours

So taking away mobile numbers customers had for years like myself is a better idea?

Was a bad idea from the outset. Telecom got away with it because a) they stopped issuing 9 digit 025 number early and b) 025 eventually died (And took lost long serving customers number from them then).

By using 0213-0219 for 9 digit numbers meant they used the bulk of their numbering space for short numbers, leaving only 0210-0212 for longer numbers.

Even with 0210-0212 you could squeeze in 3 million numbers using 10 digits.

I wondering how many post paid data and telemetry devices there are out there with short numbers

Have fun! Laughing

That's no use as it doesn't break down the number length which is fairly vital for some pbx systems..

Here is the last list  I got for Vodafone  It would be nice for a breakdown of the 0210 range

0210 XXX XXX(X)  (Total 10~11 digits)

0211 XXX XXX  ( 10 digits)

0212 XXX XXX  ( 10 digits)

0213 XX XXX  ( 9 digits)

0214 XX XXX  ( 9 digits)

0215 XX XXX  ( 9 digits)

0216 XX XXX  ( 9 digits)

0217 XX XXX  ( 9 digits)

0218 XX XXX  ( 9 digits)

0219 XX XXX  ( 9 digits)

LivingSkinny:

John's onto it.  We have had this with a few places - PABX needs to be updated with the new number range.  There are certain comms that we have sent out to PABX suppliers etc but it depends upon the administrators of the PABX doing the updates.

I will call Work and Income and see if I can get to the right person.  If you are onto them again then this is the range they need to setup: -

02040XXXXXX,
02041XXXXXX and
0204AXXXXX, where A is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9.

cheers

Paul.

Can Skinny again push this update again via these certain comms? Hitting this problem more and more lately, on Monday my garage couldn't ring me asking if ok to do additional work discovered during service, so now have to book the car in again. I've just emailed them the info above, be interesting if they do anything (http://www.citynissanauckland.co.nz/contact/generalenquiry/)

Hi I've sent a request through to see what else we can do.  It is a shame they didn't try to call you from a mobile as that would have worked - guess they thought it was a wrong number :-(

Thanks, might have more credit coming from Skinny. Also that was exactly what they thought, assumed I gave the incorrect number.

Correct, but Skinny is in a position to be pro-active in reminding PABX
admins to open these new number ranges which in turn reduces customer frustration.
To the normal person on the street my experience with the garage would be
interpreted as the Skinny network is unreliable and maybe ultimately resulting in
changing carrier.

Any issue a customer is having with our service is a skinny issue. It's just sometimes the resolution is out of our control, but we still try to help.
