If you have to send fax from a laptop, better to have a PC card attahed to it and use a web fax service instead of an external box plus call time...

Or a Hantel unit which is cheaper than the Telular (available from APT) and plug your G3 fax machine straight up the RJ11. Sends and receives fax no problem, just like a landline. Another alternative is the Gtran EVDO PC Card and WinFax Pro if you want to fax from a laptop.

Using your Nokia goto Menu/Settings/Call Settings/Data and Fax
Now set your phone to Fax Only.
This means that every incomming call will be configured as a fax call.

Now with a cable to your computer running something like WinFaxPro you will be able to receive Fax calls.

Remember to change your phone config back in Call Settings.

Have been looking into the telullar the problem being i will only be getting one or two faxes a day (if that) and i have to come up with a soloution because a company i deal with will not call through and or text claims to me...... just a very pricey way to go.

Why not use Faxaway then?

US$1 per month for you to pay

NZ15c per page for your client to pay

I can't see how you could do it cheaper than that!

I can see the sense in faxaway but then i will have to have a cord to make my computer internet ready (will have to see if it has a modem even) sigh, so many choices so much to look into.... this is great!

Hang on a moment...  There is one thing it would be helpful to know here:

==>  Do you have a phone line or are you wanting to do this completely without wires?

If you have a phone line, the solution is easy:

Just buy a Dialup modem for $50 or less.  They all have a fax function and you can receive faxes directly.

If you don't have a phone line, then I guess you are wanting to do it wirelessly so a Data Card (Telecom or Vodafone) will be the best idea.

Not too many options to worry about really Smile.

I hope that helps!

Both Telecom and Vodafone offer $49/1GB deals, which are more than enough for wireless Internet access - no cords at all.

Grant17:
lapimate: So do you have automatic forwarding set on your NZ fax number, or do you publish your Seattle number?
I don't have an NZ fax number any more ...

Thanks. I checked with Telecom and found (no surprise I suppose) that one cannot have forwarding setup for a "faxability" number because "faxability" is a service not an additional physical line (bring on the ip network).

A possible advantage of the faxaway method which appeals to me is reducing (because of the international sending cost) NZ fax spam.

Have you tried this recently yourself and made it work? If so which 'phone? Please see

However our Brother 1030e fax can itself "forward", so that would provide a way of transitioning.

freitasm: ... you can receive faxes in TIFF or PDF formats. ...

faxaway.com sends the faxes via e-mail as attachments in .tif format - I find Resco.net's Photo Viewer 5.33 on Smartphone (SP3) is OK for reading them.

Grant17: ...  For $800 I think I can live without the ability to send faxes while on the road.

I used to find it handy to hook my laptop up to my old mobile phone and send the odd fax, but for $800 I can live with e-mail...

For sending copies of physical documents what about faxing using a scanner via laptop via mobile phone via e-mail via faxaway? Or are you referring to a "laptop-free" method?

I am not sure if you realise the computer i have in the van is a oldie but does what i need, its not net ready and i can see i need to spend lots more money than i initially thought so will have to find the best cost effective way to do this and one that is a bit nicer on the pocket round this time of year!
