Noted Boss but I just like the feel and look of OE. The odd thing is that Mailwasher exhibits the same problems as does/did OE, sometimes it checks my three accounts but lately it has stalled on the xtra addy. At least I won't forget my password in a hurry. Lol.

Ok, I think I have worked out what is causing this....

The IPAD connection to the xtra mail server is IMAP type. Setup using default 'Yahoo' settings on IPAD.

Connection from both PC's is POP3.

Now. If I use the IPAD and go to mail, it works every time.

I wonder if the IPAD is holding open the IMAP connection.

XTRA mail server then does not allow POP to connect while this is happening?????

If I leave the IPAD off for more than a couple of hours, then the POP works again on the computer.

Thoughts .....

Switched my wife's email from Xtra to Gmail, and set up Gmail to retrieve the legacy Xtra mail. Every now and then, Gmail will fail to retrieve the Xtra mail, either with a 'remote server blocked the connection', or 'authentication failed'. Re-enter the same Xtra password into the Gmail settings, and Xtra mail pulls through again to Gmail.

The only mail going through to her Xtra now is things she has signed up for, so I've told her to go through and update all these notifications to her Gmail, as I'm over trying to sort her Xtra mail issues.

Before switching, when she was using Thunderbird to retrieve her Xtra mail, it would frequently fail due to authentication. Logging onto Xtra webmail with the same password would allow access, and then Thunderbird would start working again.

Hmm yeah having major issues pulling email through to Gmail today.

I've set my father up with a Google Apps account that was pulling xtra email through just fine for some time but there's been some sort of issue and now I'm seeing heaps of connection error messages from the gmail fetch system. Xtra webmail seems fine though.

Sounds like there is something going on with xtra today?

Yeah, kind of why I set up the apps account in the first place - but unfortunately old habits die hard so he still receives a lot on his xtra address.

I'm hoping this is intermittent and sooner or later I should see some mail come through? It had been working fine for months up until now, argh. Currently getting 'Connection refused' errors, though they seem to come and go

There is currently a known issue with Xtra mail but not many cases from the looks of it have been logged.

I do highly recommend if you're having the issue to log the call with the Broadband helpdesk on 0800 225 598 and make sure you get linked to the existing case so the Broadband helpdesk know the extent of the issue.

what exactly do Telecom do to their yahoo hosted email that screws it up so often?
I have had a Yahoo New Zealand email address (not Xtra ) for about thirteen years I think and have next to no problems at all that whole time.

On the surface they look to be the same product but I can't work out how Telecom can screw it up so often???

His suggestion was just to auto-forward the Yahoo mail directly to the new address, which was my next step.

Just a FYI

The case is now listed as resolved in the internal portal, so if people can please re-check to see if it's still a problem... And if it is I will re-escalate.
