plambrechtsen: I seem to be able to access all those sites without an issue. I'm going to do some further tests on what is going on. But it does seem a bit weird to me. As I just have a regular ADSL line like everyone else.

Having a look into it now, and will escalate with the Broadband team on Monday if I don't figure out what the issue is.

Any chance folks could email me their account number and current IP address to pl at telecom dot co dot nz and I can see if there is any similarity between where you are coming into the network.

I'm pretty sure (then again, most punters are, but in my defence I'm more technical than most!) that it's a Telecom issue 1/2 hops from me.

I'm in Auckland, near Pt. Chevalier.

I've been having the same issue accessing http://teamliquid.net for a few days now. The only way I can get to it now is through a vpn.

I fairly confident that I have found the issue, and escalated to the correct team to resolve with pretty pictures to justify my argument. Plus I know why I am not impacted by the issue :).

I highly recommend everyone who is impacted please log a call with the helpdesk on 0800 225 598 saying that you are getting intermittent access to some sites and unable to access others and that you want to log a call since it's a known issue. Once you have a case number please email it through to me and I will collate them and forward them through to the relevant team.

If you did a tcptraceroute and take a lan trace then this may help debug and exhibit the problem.

192.168.1.1 = dsl router (stating the obvious I'm sure!).

What is mdr-ip20e-dom.msc. bla bla bla ?

The MDR-IP20E is a Alcatel 7450 (ESS 7, or it could be a 12 I'm not 100% sure) which is the handover connection between Telecom Retail's network and Global Gateway.

Global Gateway is the International Internet Provider arm of Telecom which then routes out over the Southern Cross Cable to the interwebs.

Just because you get unusually high pings on that box doesn't mean anything in particular.. ICMP is prioritised at a lower priority than TCP.. So you will see the ping times return to more usual response times on the next hop... So I wouldn't be overly concerned with the high ping time on that one box.

I would be interested to know how everyone is doing now.... There has been a production non-impacting restart of a number of services over the last hour or so. It looks better from the view I have. However I would be interested to know everyone's feedback as to if it has resolved the problem.

http://mwomercs.com/ is working fine now. I just have to test the game sometime and see if it crashes when my mech exits the game. Pretty sure the game will work fine now too.

I am curious as to what was going on to cause this .....what is special about some of these sites that was causing them to timeout? Yet 99% of the other sites I visited continued to work fine.

If you are allowed to say...I would be very interested in knowing.
