Also, the point where it didn't drop out doesn't seem to be eight hours long - looks a bit longer, so perhaps not an exact four hour cycle.

The curious thing is that it is at exactly 12,4,8 then 4,8 (presumably 12 too).

That is something programmed to do that.

My money is atill on something injecting itself into the line (Alarm is usually the no.1 suspect here).

Doesnt drop overnight becuase the last drop before we go to bed might be 10.11 etc ? then , modem is not reset until we get up , then we have to turn it back on and re boot it, then during the day its every 4 hours . we have checked with owner, and there is NO alarm in the house, sky is NOT connected to the phone line, also checked there is NO electric fence on near by.....see we was out all day today and only re set it when we get home.....we are 5k from the exchange

This just can't be a 'wiring' fault. The fault is just far too consistent for it to be an imbalanced pair or bad joint - but that doesn't mean it is a good pair. Electric fences tend to just put that dirty clicking on a line rather than static so that still makes me think there is a bad joint. Potentially the grid end is still connected so there is a massive stub heading off down the road, purely speculation but definitely worth getting checked out.

The OP seems pretty set that there isn't some sort of dialler on the line, i think there must be something like that. It is just far far too consistent. I can see a Chorus tech being sent out and the OP getting charged a fault fee due to an internal issue.

But anyway, do we know if a new modem has been tried?

I was having the same problem last week. Paki Paki, Hawkes Bay. Modem would drop connection about every 4 hrs needing a reboot, (didn't actually time it, but I thought it was about 5 hrs). All lights on Telecom Modem prior to reboot would be green showing no problems. A line connectivity test through the Modem web-browser interface would show all green ticks. Speed and internet seemed fine for the hours prior to dropped connection. Thought it must be my wiring packing up in a semi-rural farm batch or too many setting changes on the modem but tried another Telecom modem with pretty much default settings and same problem. Internet connection has been pretty good considering for about 2 years up to last week. No master-splitter. I've noticed quite a speed drop during peak times since the new upgraded data allowances on Total Home last year. I've cancelled my Land-Line and have gone Mobile Broadband but might have been a bit too hasty.

Could there have been Chorus line fix / upgrade work done in the area during that week that may have caused a problem. Is there any way to check their work-log schedule in the area during that week and what was done. A setting I did have disabled on the modem was the DNS server ie "DNS Server config state=disabled". Could having DNS Server disabled on the modem cause the connection to drop-off after a few hours. Just some suggestions.

Slow downs are an across the board issue occuring on BUBA connections across the board. Most of this is related to the Commerce Commission speculations for BUBA (which is a regulated product) that enforces handover dimensioning of 45kbps per user averaged over a 15 min period. With the number of high use plans in the marketplace now this is causing congestion issues.

But this customer is on EUBA on an ISAM so that isn't the issue in this case.

He still seems to have the same issue with the disconnections with very uniform times.

The thing that is also interesting is it happens at 5am and 9am (Last status change 3/5/13 9:17 AM). As it did with the last test. I've restarted it to see what happens again over the next 24 hours.

Do you have a home medical alarm, or something else plugged into your home phone that may be doing a periodic call out? Do you have Sky?? And have you tried unplugging your mysky / sky box if you do?

Any chance you could be on the phone tomorrow morning around that time and see what happens during that time.

Maybe the cow shed or nearby factory machinery starting up a certain times, causing EM pulse on the line?

Its every 4 hours from reset. On the dot. This morning it was reset at 5.30 am. Then again 9.30an. Oh guess what? Also being reset rught now too1.3o!!!
