Now the question is I guess, Will my Lumia 920 have its LTE re-enabled?

Edit: was beaten to it already.

freitasm: I wish then Telecom doesn't forget their Nokia Lumia 920 customers and send word to Nokia saying "Yes, unlock LTE on these devices now please"

Because it's not fun having a LTE device locked out by the operator.

I'll ask about that, but I would anticipate that once full integrated network testing has been completed the push to enable LTE on LTE capable devices would be done well in advance to launch.

The problem is that the Nokia Lumia 920 is unlocked, LTE capable but if I put a competitor's SIM card it won't work on LTE. If I go to the USA and get an AT&T SIM card it won't work on LTE.

Not actually a good experience from a top of the line handset.

Which is why you go for a brand that tells the operators what to do and is not beholden to them.

Even if it is fanboi widgets.

You're surely not talking about the brand that took a couple of years to offer tethering internationally because AT&T didn't like it, and disabled video calls over 3G internationally because AT&T didn't like it, are you?

Edit: And back on topic, it'll be good to see Telecom and Vodafone competing again; better services for everyone! Now hurry up and get it to my town :P

I believe that the intention is for 700/1800, just like how the WCDMA network is 850/2100.

langi27: There will be some sad faces at Alcatel-Lucent.

I wonder if John Key delivered the news to the Chinese president personally.

It was a sarcastic/joke comment seeintg Huawei is a Chinese company and our Prime Minister was in China over the last couple of days.

I see - all it means is they gave the contract to Huawei instead of alcatel-lucent ... I thought there was something about Huawei's alleged spying etc

If anyone starts moaning about this sort of thing, they should be up in arms already about the various large scale Huawei networks in NZ such as the whole of 2Degrees network, and that Ultra Fast Fibre in waikato uses huawei equipment even down to their ducting.

I suspect that the contract comes down to money. Huawei most likely way cheaper than alcatel-lucent..

Don't be so sure about that, ALU are dying a slow death, if their products were so good they wouldn't have declining sales over the last 5 years.  No doubt Huawei probably offered lower cost product but Huawei also have a massive R&D department that is keeping them near the top of Technology developments.

I doubt Huawei would be where they are today just because they offered a cheap inferior product.
