Nice how'd you manage to find that out @matt1553?

I decided to search on google whether anyone managed to fix this yet as I posted about this awhile ago with no result. Will try your modified APK now

The latest 4.3 ROM (JWR66Y) patches Mms.apk. I don't know what it changes, but it doesn't resolve the MMS download issue on XT. I've re-applied my changes to the latest version.

If you're currently on JWR66V and using my patched Mms.apk, you'll need to revert back to the stock apk before you can update. You can get a copy from http://vm.matt.gen.nz/Android/Mms_JWR66V_Original.apk. My patched version is at http://vm.matt.gen.nz/Android/Mms_JWR66V_Patched.apk.

My new patched Mms.apk for JWR66Y is at http://vm.matt.gen.nz/Android/Mms_JWR66Y_Patched.apk. The original is at http://vm.matt.gen.nz/Android/Mms_JWR66V_Original.apk.

@JamesL - Sorry about the delayed reply. The GZ site didn't send me an email when you posted.
I basically figured it out by doing a bit or research. The fact that Go SMS Pro worked with the same MMS APN settings seemed really strange. I tried searching around some more to see if the N4 was having issues on other networks. Some guys on a US carrier were complaining about receiving really small pictures, which they could work around using Go SMS Pro. Then I came across http://lazydroid.com/2012/04/howto-send-and-receive-mms-on-galaxy-nexus-softbank/. After that I started looking into the workings of MMS, UAProfURLs and UserAgents. From there, I figured I had a good idea about what was causing the problem, so took a crack at fixing it.

If everyone who's encountered this problem could star the bug I've reported (https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58101) it'll help bring it to Google's attention. There's a good chance it will affect future Nexus devices too if it's not resolved.

Not encountered (I don't own an N4) but still starred. It's the sort of thing that should be fixed!

I've logged another bug report, hopefully with a more attention-grabbing name ("MMS Download Broken (Cause Identified)") https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=59354.

Did anyone get to the bottom of this from Telecom / Spark??  I just got a new Xiaomi Mi 4i  using Lollipop  running on Skinny with the same problem.   Can send MMS but not recieve.  Skinny seems to use the old telecom APNs these days but even changing them to the skinny ones makes no difference.  This is a dual SIM phome and I have a 2degrees SIM in slot  2 and that works fine both ways.  With my nexus 4 I installed Go SMS pro   but it doesn't appear to be an option with the Mi software as will not allow  you to change the default messaging app  or the  default app launcher..

It's just doing a software update now so it will be interesting to see what changes.

This is not a biggy as I very seldom use SMS or MMS  but Whatsapp.

Regards,
