Yep, but also bear in mind they just relased a dual cdma/GSM handset

That will obviously solve some of the roaming issues and *may* be part of a master plan...???

Telecom were stuffed in handset choice before sprint picked up CDMA.

Vodaphone have good range of handsets and poor coverage, telecom is the opposite

Vodaphone have good range of handsets and poor coverage, telecom is the opposite

Why does everybody still keep quoting this rubbish? No network if NZ can claim to have superior coverage. Overall both networks are very similair but with places where one has coverage and the other doesn't - for every place that Vodafone has coverage and Telecom doesn't I could list somewhere Telecom has coverage that Vodafone doesn't.

Sorry , let me qualify that , for the region of NZ I am interested in the statement in terms of coverage is true as of a year ago.

If you care about hick towns in the middle of nowhere which you have to go outside before you get signal, then yeah, telecom are better, but if your talking about normal urban coverage then vodafone blows telecom out of the water. Go where the people are is a smart thing to do, whereas telecom seem to want to install coverage where they arn't. Perhaps that will change if they go wcdma on 850 like telstra.

I forgot about that. Maybe johnr could come up with a reason as to why when standing right below a 1800MHz microcell in Lambton Quay that a particular GZ user couldn't use his phone due to no coverge!

Not being dual band perhaps? Or else its a 900/1900 one that was popular early on for using in the states and europe?

Some of us occassionally like to have something known as a holiday, whereby we go to a 'hick town in the middle of nowhere' in order to relax and get away from the city. Whilst I prefer not to make or receive calls when I'm on holiday, it gives me piece of mind to know that I could use my phone if something unexpected were to happen.

That really just sounds like jealousy that Telecom covers hick towns and Vodafone doesn't. Do you live in a hick town?

As for urban coverage, Telecom has better coverage just about everywhere I've been, including under Vodafone cellsites

And I doubt that it is a 'good rural coverage / poor urban coverage' vs 'good urban coverage / poor rural coverage' thing either. Both networks have their short comings in various different areas in the form of blackspots...

A certain 2100mhz network seems to have problems with covering both...
