sbiddle: I've seen a few other people comment about poor XT performance in Dunedin recently.

I flashed a telecom modem on my s4 and seems a tad better but sadly have not had any free time to do any real testing ... but i'm guessing still on dial up speeds

Most of your tests are around the university area aren't they?
My GF tries to use her phone there and is considering switching to vodafone since it is so unusable

Hate to sound like a broken record here.

But if there are coverage issues please log a coverage fault with the Mobile Helpdesk on 0800 800 163 and make sure they drop a pin in the area you are having issues.

There isn't any recent cases logged of coverage issues at the Otago Uni... So.... If we don't know people are having issues then we won't know where we need to build more sites.

It's really important that a coverage fault and asking the CSR to "Drop a pin in the exact location you are having coverage issues" is done. So then the network planning folks can use that for future build information.

If we want to send along data, is it going to be sufficient to use this form? Will that have the same result as calling up the mobile helpdesk?

As i'd rather send speedtests, ping stats, signal figures, etc as that gives more data to work with.

Then two tests at home, this is a completely different cellsite:

These are all to Telecom's speedtest server.

These last two tests were ironically in between dropped calls to the prepaid helpdesk, signal -87 to -99dBm ish, 2-4 bars reported by phone. I had the call drop four times, or have one side of the conversation cut out, thankfully each time they called me back. After far too many excuses where they kept talking in circles, they checked my address, told me i was in prime coverage, but I insisted on having the issue logged considering 4 dropouts during their own phone call is pretty poor.

Though of course, since I use a nexus 4, i have nearly zero power when it comes to speed or coverage issues, as i discovered last time i logged an issue because its not a Telecom supplied device.

Even though it supports DC-HSPA+, and gets better signal strength than the GS1 i9000T.

That data above is auto generated by the Android speedtest app when you go share via email. It would be nice if there was an email address that speedtests could be forwarded to as this would be a really easy way of getting speed, time, and GPS location data.

i have no problems with vodafones data speeds in chch.

Just did a speedtest and i got 10Mbps down and 2 up on the homebase, shirley site just if anyone was thinking about switching.

I'm all happy to log faults but surely they can already monitor the areas in Dunedin and other centres that are being overly congested and can do something about it, the slow speeds have been ongoing for months and are only getting worse

I was considering making a speedtest thread, but I have a feeling some might complain that speedtest isn't the best for measuring mobile networks or something. Thoughts?

For now, heres some of todays results. I used to speedtest up to 15 megabit in the evening. Heres two from this evening:
