I understand why the telcos want to sell them at launch on contract, but they should also allow outright sales to existing customers already on contracts. I realise though that this could be open to abuse.
And my understanding is by only selling them on 24mth interest free term they almost have a safeguard in place as to take advantage you need to stay on a post plan plan for the duration of the interest free term and if you cancel plan you will need to stump up for the outstanding balance of the phone
Buying on 24mth open plan with interest free is a version of a 24mth contract in a round about way, hence my concern that all Telecom have done is upset existing customers whose loyalty need not be questioned
I thought you could buy it on an open term interest free and then later on you could cancel the open term and go to prepaid and keep the interest free as long as your number was with telecom, if you were to port your number over to another provider then you would have to pay the remainder up front. But then as i type this i think i'm totally wrong. Can anyone clear this up?
