therein lies your answer, maybe they don't want vanilla just the phone as stock gives you very little options. I don't buy a phone for its firmware but maybe some do

I can't imagine someone buying a Nexus 5 and then flashing it with a Samsung load.. If you don't want vanilla buy an all singing and dancing one..

Are you on prepay? Telecom's prepay data has been rubbish the past few weeks. (As in, you'll lose data completely with the symptoms described).
I've been having the same problem up in Auckland too.

On iphone 5, no issues here. Just out of interest, do you have wifi on and have connected to one of their free wifi zones? This is when I get my issues.

This is just another of numerous threads on this issue. Theres one just below this thread too.

By flashing that rom you're flashing the system image and kernel, not the radio. Though there is the the RIL is in the system/kernel that talks to the radio. However I'd find it extremely unlikely that its a band issue on this device. Though having the stock rom does help eliminate a variable for testing. On an unrelated note, the H+ is something almost every custom (and many carrier/manufacturer) roms add on top of android - stock android doesn't visibly discern between the various speeds of HSPA in the status bar.

The problem will likely be the same as people have been reporting for months is my guess. By the way, you won't get anywhere with support in owning that device as its not an official telecom supplied one running telecom firmware, therefore the network team will simply state this if your query reaches the higher levels of support and they can't find any other known cause. Which is fair enough considering they have quality control and need to control as many variables on the network as possible particularly when troubleshooting, but still frustrating as a customer.

On the other hand, I think its still worth logging cases when it happens and getting a reference number. if you get it often, simply note down the times it happens and then call up a few times when you have the chance to get it logged. Just like PL suggests in this thread:

The issue does appear to be rare enough that it isn't affecting everyone, but still common enough that i've seen it pop up every now and then, both on here, on other online communities, twitter, as well as with various people i know around the country.

Curiously the last person that mentioned this to me had a Nexus 4 and was in wellington also. I got this with my Nexus 4 and 5 before i left telecom (mostly because of this). I've seen one report of a HTC One too. What else are people using?

I didn't mention Samsung but if you check out XDA you will see a huge amount of custom Roms that I'm guessing make the Nexus 5 hum. Once again its about the Phone not the firmware, if its just the firmware then most of the top phones are able to get something close to Google Roms if not the actual article.

I've been having the same problem up in Auckland too.

This is interesting, i changed from Ultra postpay to prepaid a month ago and it is only since this change that I have had an issue

No, not connected to their WiFi zones. However, I'm near one, but never connected to it.

It's strange that the stock ROM solved the issue today. If the problem still occurs, I'll switch to Vodafone or 2degrees.

I'll e-mail Telecom, if they aren't able to solve it, I'll switch to Vodafone or 2degrees. Would Skinny have the same problems, as that's also Telecom?

I've been having the same problem up in Auckland too.

yes, I have had the same issue erratically as well. Couldn't get on to 3G at all on Monday morning in the Newtown-ish (Wellington) area. My phone has stock firmware on it. The only thing different is it's rooted. OK since then so far.

Strange thing though is that I don't see H+ anymore, only H. Not sure whether the stock ROM ever showed H+ or if it's only visible on custom ROM's.

H is the norm for the stock ROM.

Interesting, I was experiencing this on my prepay tablet, lazily attributed it to being due for replacement. Or perhaps I was hoping this was the case! Galaxy 7.7 in Auckland.
