samdouglas: So a guy from Chorus has been down at our local cabinet for the RBI upgrade.
I was getting a not too terrible 6.5 mbps (out in rural part of kapiti)
and suddenly today there was a broadband outage and I rebooted my router and its now synced at 16513 kbit :)

the line attenuation has gone down from i think about 30 to now 10 dB down and 6 dB up...

Just wondered if this sounds like it would be good enough for VDSL? I spoke to a tech a while back who said we might be able to get VDSL out here after the cabinet upgrade if the signal was good enough...

heres my current sync stats:

Line standard                                ADSL2+
Channel type                                Interleaved
Downstream line rate (kbit/s)         16513
Upstream line rate (kbit/s)             989
Downstream SNR (dB)                   12.1
Upstream SNR (dB)                       12.8
Downstream line attenuation (dB)   10
Upstream line attenuation (dB)       5.9
Downstream output power (dBmV) 18.8
Upstream output power (dBmV)      12.1
Downstream CRC                           0
Upstream CRC                               0
Downstream FEC                            0
Upstream FEC                                0

Your stats are very close to mine....

We live in a rural area but close to the end of the line cabinet that was never going to be upgraded until lifestyle block demand and the RBI caused some action this year.

I was getting around 6.5 Mbps Down, 0.65 Up , Attenuation 9 dB from ADSL for many years in our countryside location so I was not that unhappy.

After a new Whisper cabinet installation I was getting ADSL2+ at 16.3 Mbps Down, 0.94 Up, Ping 14ms, Attenuation 7 dB, SNR 15 for a week or so while I waited for VDSL install.

After VDSL2 install and DLM training, I have modem connected at 50.35 Mbps Down, 10.35 Up on the 8B profile.

Actual speed test rates are: 46.60 Mbps Down, 9.60 Mbps Up, Ping 5ms, Attenuation 10 dB, SNR 11 - Rock Solid connection with no issues running on approx 400M underground copper from cabinet to entry point then another 80M Cat6 from splitter to the (Draytek 130) modem.

You should be good.

10 days not 7.

Edit:  But profile changes still happen after 10 days, just much slower unless the system declares them urgent (i.e. a bout of instability).

Cool i will keep an eye on it then. I guess I am about 750m from the cabinet - also the Chorus tech said i was the first person in the cabinet with VDSL and we dont have too many neighbours as yet so hopefully it will stay pretty good! chuffed :)

likely a bit of degradation will go on with people jumping on, but best of luck!

likely you wont move much more above 35, nowdays profiles tend to start strong and pull back (assuming no bandplan changes)
