And this is the Yahoo!Xtra Bubble e-mail FAQ:


Q. Do I need to do anything to access my email if I use an email program like Outlook or Outlook Express?
A. No, if you use Outlook or Outlook Express to access your email then you shouldn't need to do anything or change any settings.


Q. What are the new Yahoo!Xtra Pro Mail (Yahoo!Xtra Bubble) email settings?
A. For the new settings click here.



Are these answers designed to add to the confusion? You don't have to do anything/you should change this.

My system didn't work on the SSL settings but does on the old settings. Others have stopped on the old and don't work on the new either. I suspect that my problem with the new settings is either AV or Firewall not allowing anything other than ports 110/25 for mail but haven't experimented yet.

I'm beginning to wonder if those who haven't yet go the new settings working have registered for Bubble?

I don't use Xtra, but my wife does.  When she registered for Bubble she was presented with, amongst other things, the new pop3/smtp settings for server and port (excluding the detail about SSL which we worked out).

I wonder if Bubble registration is necessary in order to successfully authenticate against the new smtp server?

Just a thought - I'm not a network engineer...

SMTP: send.xtra.co.nz:587
USER: XXXX@xtra.co.nz
PASS: XXXX

NO SSL or anything else.

Did you tick "My server requires authentication", under the Severs tab?

I forgot to-do this, and it's now working perfectly with the new settings.

I have had a week trying to get my email sorted.  After multiple calls - hours on hold - finally got through (?to Phillipines)  I was able to send email but not recieve - problem was I use to get a copy of my xtra email forwarded on to my work email, but now they no longer let you keep a copy on the server - solution is to stop mail forwarding from your new xtra.yahooo account.  Ultimate solution for me will be to change ISP

Again, you need to ensure (my previous post above); that you have ticked "My server requires authentication", under the Severs tab. Ensure SMTP is set to send.xtra.co.nz and SSL is selected, port 465, and pop3.xtra.co.nz, SSL selected, port 995,

You can also leave a copy on the server (Xtra Recommends this). You set this via your email client. For Outlook Express / Windows Mail, go to, Tools / Accounts / {Select your account] / Properties, Advanced Tab, under Delivery, click Leave a copy of messages on server.

I am using Mail on an iMac, have unclicked "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" but according to help desk xtra only lets you download one copy of the email to one mail client - oteherwise you have to use webmail.  This is a pain if my wife has already downloaded the xtra emails at home and I wanted to read them from work
