I hope the announcement is that because there are so many excelent free mail providers around they will be dropping support for email. That would make me so happy so I could finally remove some stubborn relatives from spark as their ISP because they dont want to change email address. Make them have to.

Nope, will never happen.
They would loose far to many customers if they dropped the free email.
If they drop the xtra email adress, then many will question why they even need spark at all & will go to one of the many
CHEAPER ISP's .

Nope, will never happen.

my guess based on previous observations of Telecom and probably migrated into Spark.

Contractors would like a gold plated solution and Spark the cheapest.
The result is Spark has got what Telecom  paid for.

Being aware that to create a small business you mismanage a large business my guess is they will bring it back in house and announce it very soon.

Result...Spark will look like the good guys bringing jobs back to NZ and Yahoo as the incompetent villans.

who knows ????

how about announcement at the Annual Shareholders meeting on 7th November ?

no problems from last Thursday until Monday afternoon. Since then a trickle is slowly turning into a torrent. Time for xtra to get their technicians on the job again ?

Experiencing intermittent email send failures (using send.xtra.co.nz settings) from our main business management/accounting platform when sending invoices by email.  Appear to be authentication failures/timeouts.  Vendor advises problem is related to email problems discussed in this forum.  We use hosted gmail for our normal business email but our management system doesn't support gmail settings (for some strange reason).  Very frustrating and costly to our business.  Seriously looking at moving all our business away from Spark.  Can't afford to stay.  Too many basic failings.

no announcement but good service until this morning (Monday 10th Nov). Getting technicians on the job obviously does something so what is it ?

Not possible.
Xtra email is Yahoo. Xtra email is not Spark or Telecom.
Xtra/telecom/Spark techs cant do anything to fix ongoing yahoo server/system issues

You just have to live with it & put up with ongoing issues. Or move to another email provider.

I take your point but I was quoting from the Spark service status page. Maybe they should say Yahoo technicians as the do with phone status where they  say  Chorus.

failures slowed down to a trickle then its back to multiple password requests popping up regularly but no problems showing on the spark email status. Is it me or is it happening to others?

Yahoo is sparks provider, and the customer doesn't have a contract with yahoo, the contract is with Spark and the customer. So it is essentially Spark email, which is a rebadged yahoo service. But Spark have to take responsibility for any failings of their providers. Similar to Chrous and Spark, the customer doesn't have any direct contract with chorus, but chorus are indirectly providing a service resold by spark. Some people do actually pay $20 a month to have an xtra email address, i they don't have any other spark services, so many people are paying for email the service.

GEOMAX: failures slowed down to a trickle then its back to multiple password requests popping up regularly but no problems showing on the spark email status. Is it me or is it happening to others?

 

I am still getting these all the time, although not this evening. Spark are certainly aware of the problem, and know it is occurring, but there is nothing they can do about it. I was told by one customer support person, that it was a free service and provided as is,  but some people are paying for just having and xtra email address, as it is used for business.
