All iPhone handsets work in all New Zealand networks - obviously if someone reported lost or stolen then it will be blocked.

Your "friend" is not really your "friend".

No NZ new iPhones are locked to a network (so if you but an iPhone from Spark, 2Degrees or Vodafone, it will work on any network).

It looks like you have acquired a stolen or lost phone. I hope you got it cheap, or you can get your money back from the person who sold it to you. If it is stolen, you have both broken the law (receiving stolen goods).

Well they all lock the elcheapo new phones these days but premium phones should be OK..

Make a police complaint. They are looking into the trade of stolen stuff on facebook etc at the moment so they may actually do something for a change.

Please report this, not only to see if you can get your money back, however unlikely, but to help to get justice for whomevers phone this was.

Give the police everything they ask for and be as helpful as you can.

Oh and if it sounds too good to be true..... it is.

ah the good old Facebook trade pages - it looks to me like 50% of the stuff is potentially stolen goods

Rule of thumb: Don't EVER buy goods from people you don't know via Facebook, especially high end goods as it is one of the easiest ways now for somebody to flog stolen goods off these days.

Reason: the police can come to you if the device is tracked in any way - I know this as I have been involved in a recovery of some stolen laptops recently and some "innocent" people bought them from Facebook but are however in trouble for receiving stolen goods.

If you believe you've got any stolen goods then report this right away else it can come back and haunt you, you'll never get this phone unblocked, it'll be turned into a paperweight soon enough.
