In the picture below there is a orange and white twisted pair, I assume this goes to the exchange?

Then the orange+white pair is split into two
1. It goes into a filter then comes out as a blue+white pair that runs into the house.
2. It continues as a orange+white pair than runs into the house.

white cable with 8 pairs inside it. (I assume this is what goes to my house)

So have they botched my install my using incorrect splitter box? or is it ok?

ild check with coffeebarron, but pretty sure thats definitely not a vdsl compliant splitter....

Who did the installation?

google tells me "MM3200B" is an ADSL splitter

I better go confirm that there are no other splitters there (I'm sure there are not), just in case I took the wrong photo.

Also the only splitter seems to be installed to a cable labelled as #17, where I live in #01. Either the cable is labelled wrong, or he installed the wrong splitter into the wrong line.

My improvement in speed might just be the fact that I last checked the speed 2 months ago.

Jase2985: that is not a new master splitter/filter, that is an old ADSL one

VDSL ones generally have 3 pairs of wires coming out of them

+1, A VDSL splitter should have, 1 Pair for Incomming line, 1 Pair for out out going DSL & 1 Pair for outgoing POTS.

Edit: If you think you're competent enough to install one they're dead to buy but if you've paid Bigpipe to get one installed I'd complain and get the tech back out.

I sent a complaint email, I'd rather someone else do it because I do not own any tools. If I had the tools, I could try I'm sure, I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult.

Ideally I'd like to cut the wires, to see if my internet connection drops (to double check it's actually the correct line), but I don't have any way to rejoin them :p

presumabky it wouldn't need the pots one because Bigpipe only do naked, so a naked splitter would not have a pots line, no?

yes but the frequencies are different for VDSL so you would still need a VDSL splitter

cyril7: Obviously these new VDSL2 filters are also rated to 30MHz where as the older ADSL/2+ filters are only rated to 2.2MHz, hence only ADSL2+ capable.

There is only one lot of wires in the room. I left him there to do his thing. I'm sure there were no splitters there before. Now there is 1x splitter box. I was paranoid, so I've triple checked. There is only 1 x splitter, as pictured. The rest is just a spaghetti of wires.

Either

1. He installed an ADSL splitter for my VDSL connection
2. He didn't do anything.

PS: He told me he installed a splitter for me.

The current VDSL rated splitters have an additional pair (green/white) and have been available for a number of years now. Those older splitters are not rated for the higher frequencies and should not be installed. Any still in circulation are (very) old stock.

This is what my new wall socket looks like

The green + white is for VDSL, the blue+white is for phone line.
There are two phone connection boxes upstairs.

I guess the only way to know for certain that the ADSL splitter is wired into my phone line would be to temporarily disconnect that filter and see if my internet connection goes down?

Can you recycle those little plastic bubbles can i disconnect and reconnect using pliers or do I need the special tool?

Either way if chorus was booked to install a VDSL splitter and a) there wasn't one installed or b) they installed an old ADSL Filter they need to come back out and get it fixed
