FWIW I found it a lot harder to seed from behind CG-NAT vs having a public IP. Download speeds were very similar.

P2P comparison is basically impossible to state, since you can't control for so many things (different torrents, number of seeds, where they are, etc etc)

Plus if you were on Orcon before you would have been using a different modem, which also effects things. What modem are you using now? If it's a cheap one it probably can't handle torrenting very well. If you are on wifi, that also effects things.

Having said that, I have no problem maxing out my ~45Mbps VDSL line on P2P with Bigpipe on well seeded torrents.

same modem as when on orcon, its a tlink cheapo that comes with vodafone broadband connections. when bigpipe changed over, i didnt need to change any settings on the modem.. it just started working

yep, im on wifi... but was on wifi with orcon too

You weren't using the Orcon genius with Orcon? I thought they forced everyone to use it?

In any case, if you're testing over wifi then it makes the comparison completely invalid since there are so many other things that effect it that are impossible to control for.
e.g. maybe your neighbour just got a new modem that is interfering with the signal, or even just moved the position of the modem in their house. maybe your flatmate is doing more P2P at the same time, which uses the wifi signal (and the actual connection bandwidth)

If you want to get the best out of P2P, don't use wifi. simple as that.

nah, they never forced the orcon genius on me.

no flatmate issue.

but would be a hell of a coincidence that neighbour may have done any of those things the same day big pipe started.

+1 BigPipe doesn't throttle P2P, wireless does.

Did your sync speeds change at all? You could've been on LLU gear with Orcon (lower SNR) vs being connected via Chorus with Bigpipe.

Have a go at this very well seeded torrent, see what sort of speeds you get compared to your sync speed: http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.10/ubuntu-14.10-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent
I've tried it on a 100/20 UFB line in the past, and it got up to 100mbit within 30 seconds.

The speed your modem is connected to the equipment on the other end of the copper line at.
You'll be able to find it in the configuration page somewhere, likely under a status section. Will look something similar to this: https://i.imgur.com/eqN5sUu.png

I dont generally torrent my private tracker stuff on bigpipe because I have a seedbox for that so I maintain ratio easier, but when I do, I get great speeds - my bigpipe line only syncs in the mid 18000's at the moment so I will sometimes hit 2MB/s on the downloads but its usually 1.8ish.

Public torrents is a whole different story. If you are behind NAT that may have a negative effect, but I see in general the same lousy speeds that I get on my snap connection for the public torrents. Slingshot ran a torrent cache which would make them go really fast if they were on the cache. I dont know if they have extended that to orcon or not since they bought them, but that is the only time I would see great speeds on a public torrent consistantly. With uncached ones it would hit line speed for a while when it got a slot on a peer with good upload speeds, and then minutes or sometimes seconds later drop back as that peer throttled it.

Looks like you are syncing at ~12-13Mbps, so best possible speed for a torrent in perfect conditions will be about 1.6MBps.
1MBps would be reaosnable for a well seeded torrent, and varying down to 300KBps wouldn't be particularly strange.

Are you sure you aren't reading the MBps as Mbps on your torrent client?
