Given the issues with Lollipop 5.0 I wouldn't be getting my knickers in a twist about it, seems 5.1 that was just released has fixed the memory leaks so hopefully Samsung will miss the 5.0 upgrade.
I maybe wrong but I believe LG is the only one to release Lollipop in NZ (excluding nexus and Motorolla) so don't come down on Samsung its an android thing so either live with it, root it or change OS as it won't change.

I can't understand this mentality of "chasing the latest updates". Droid or Apple, they are all incremental and make little changes to the phones overall usefulness.
People buy "bling", because it is there and they want to feel good. People also want the latest update because that also is not much more than a little "bling" that provides the feel good factor. Manufacturers of tech have known this for years.

People want updates for the fixes and additions it adds to their devices. Apple and MSFT support their products, the Android OEMs cast them adrift the worse being Samsung once they have sold a device they don't care about it.
Dave are you on the wrong Forum? :-) Geeks by their nature like new technology. Besides, as new tech is invariably better than old tech its a natural progression that everyone should desire. Want better battery life, faster processors, better operating systems? Then an upgrade is what you need. Besides I want it so I can better program the next generation of apps.

Hahaha Netspanner. Definitely the correct forum and it has saved me many hundreds of dollars in tech fees. I guess I am looking at this from a business owners perspective (which is cost vs overall benefit and time vs outcome). You are indeed correct - new tech is invariably better than old, but most changes are incremental and offer little overall (significant) benefit.
For instance, my old Note2 is still as good as the day it was new and at the end of the day, my new Note4 (whilst better in looks and operating system) does only a little more. The Note 2 for instance still allows me to stream BBC, ITV, 4oD, Netflix and Popcorn Time all over the house to all of our Sammy TV's, run Plex, check emails etc etc. The only downside is that it has a rather dreary user interface.
I will give you another example and believe this or not. One of the best performing PCs in our office is an old XP box that is used purely for emails and MS Office apps (bought years ago)! Updated with a 24 inch monitor, it works very well and just keeps on going. Yes outdated, but it still does what is was purchased for and does it well. So am I going to invest in a new one just so that it can have Windows 8 and the latest Office apps? I don't think so as I would rather give the staff a night out.
But I hear what you are saying, the latest version is nice to have, I just don't think it is worth worrying about.
