Looking at that Pace modem, it looks like it was the original piece of kit Telecom were handing out when they first started doing UFB. It's probably not very good at all (ISP modems are 'free' for a reason, they suck).
Something like a Netcomm NF4V would be a lot better.

I wouldnt suggest that if you need handholding thru the configuration process as it has a very complex user interface.

Also the AC model is only $20 more so you can actually use the fiber speeds over wifi, and doesnt clutter it up with useless voice ports that the V model has.

god point.  the NF4V is a bit funky when it comes to the gui.

At least you don't have to wait on hold for over two hour... I see Fairgo are doing a story next week on another ISP.
An email is quick and you can go away to do other things. The worst email support though is when they don't read the email properly. Often when you send an email, it gets the problem sorted with just a single reply to say it is fixed.

Whats the difference between Snap UFB and Bigpipe UFB ? because of the reason that I could use the modem i have with Snap UFB and I cannot with Bigpipe.

Apparently the v5542 does not allow you to modify vlan settings. So im kinda confused.

I'm gonna try bridging the pace to a netgear 6300d

If you have a netgear 6300 you don't need the pace at all. Just use the negear.

Netgear D6300 dosnt support fibre D:

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Ok so I think providers such as Telecom and Snap require a vlan tag of 10 and other providers like Bigpipe dont need vlan to be tagged? so in my case the pace v5442 vlan cannot be changed. So i need to buy a new Modem/router for my connection to work

What do you mean it doesn't support fibre? Just plug your ONT into the Internet port on the D6300

SoberJoker: Why is bigpipes support such a f headache ? Communicating through emails for over a day with no resolution is beyond rediclous. Even when they said they would call me if there's a issue on my end and there is! They told me to check my vlan tagging and I said I'm not sure I send a photo to them they say , they don't see it have a look somewhere else ! . Then they say there's a million routers out there and they are not familiar with some of the most generic modems out there or router the pace v5542 by telecom . Wtf is wrong with your support team if a customer has a issue ou solve it.

It sounds like Bigpipe isn't the product for you if you're unhappy with their business model.

Typically speaking no ISP will provide support for hardware they don't supply. In the case of Bigpipe they provide connection settings and it's up to you to have the knowledge to configure the hardware.

NF8AC is an identical GUI but the quick setup wizard only requires a few clicks and details to get up and running. I'm not sure why so many people struggle with this device.

I think It should with bigpipe.

With Bigpipe, because they don't do vlan tagging, you can use any router you want.
Provided it's not a cheap price of crud and it has a wan port, you should be totally fine.
Give it a try.

It won't work with ufb for most other providers because they require vlan tagging, which most routers don't do.

(Vlan tagging is a feature used mostly for voip. BigPipe don't do voip, therefore don't need vlan tagging)

With the nfv4, the quick setup guide for VDSL does not work. You have to manulally remove all the connections and add a new one.

Speaking to the email support portion of this discussion - I have had nothing but flawless email communication from Big Pipe.

Very fast responses, clear instructions - absolutely fantastic.

I absolutely never want Big Pipe to change or adjust their support method, never have I had an ISP with a support system that worked well - these guys have it nailed.

In earlier firmware this was the case but it's been fixed for ages.
