How's that download and upload speed working for you mate. Do you notice an overall difference in day to day use?

Snowmandk: Hey,

I live in Tremont too and am currently thinking about getting ufb. Bigpipe seems to be the cheapest and fastest provider but their coverage check says I can't get UFB at this address. How did you go about getting it from them? Also, would everyone have to go through the MDU consent process or would that no longer be necessary now?

Cheers

Howdy neighbour!

BigPipe's website still lists our place as non-fibre, you're right. They told me to sign up for the base ADSL plan but then type "UFB Elite" in the "how did you hear about us" field. Maybe just flick them a support message first just to make sure they know it's coming. I dealt with Felix who was super helpful and proactive.

You definitely won't need to go through the consent process again, the fibre is already in our Comms Room and it's in cabinets in the hallway on each floor. All the Chorus dudes have to do is run their cabling (which unfortunately is black) from the hallway into your apartment. Not sure if you would need landlord consent if you're renting, as they do drill through walls to get the ONT placed where you want it.

Flick me a PM if you want and I'll give you my mobile number, you're welcome to come see how they installed it at my place and I can help you out with getting the building manager to provide the installers with access to the Comms Room and hallway cabinets/ducts.

It's like going from dialup to Jetstream back in the day. Everything is so much faster, I get a steady 16 MB/sec down via Mega, and if I use a download accelerator app (I use Folx on Mac) to split downloads into several threads, it just screams along.

I do a lot of work direct to Dropbox and it's so efficient not having to wait for files to finish saving/uploading before I can share the link with a client.

Hey there!

Thanks for the advice (to you too DarkShadow!), just signed up and Felix took care of changing it to UFB Pro! I am renting, but I can't see why the owner would oppose to having fibre installed, only makes the apartment more interesting to future tenants! I'll ask Darrell when he gets back next week, but I'll also drop you a pm. Can't help to have some support if need should arise :)

Hope everything goes well and quick, used to have 100mbit back in Germany and the 3mbit Vodafone provides right now is driving me crazy...

Great speed for a great price. Broadband envy indeed.

Wish they'd come to christchurch already!

Grats man - I've had mine since December. It is amazing how much of a difference it makes.
