TP-link TD-W8980 has Ethernet WAN port so route away, totally unnecessary though.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Jase2985: step one: get VDSL
step two: transfer your setting to new modem if you want to keep the security flaws there
step three: investigate using your TP link as an access point if you so wish

If i get a new modem with the same brand, and copy everything over exactly the same.  The parameters for the port forwarding in the modem. Would i still be able to forward successfully?

you dont even need the same brand

you just need to copy over the port forward settings from that page of the modem.

you generally get a free modem when you sign up to VDSL
