Have you had ADSL/VDSL there previously ? If yes, there shouldnt be too much for them to do except setup a dedicated jack. If not, then maybe where you want it is out of their scope, and you do need to organize some internal wiring.
Cat5 is what you get with the telecom router/modem when you join up.. currently i think you get 3 cables. (all different colours yellow? blue? and black although they are all the same.. colour helps with designing whats wan comming in and lan going out is all.. so dont have to label if stick to proper colour)
often just called UTP lan cable.. that you connect laptop on the side lan card to the back of the router.
normally allows for 1gig abit.. Cat 5e is better and best is cat6
the phone is RJ11 and lan cable have RJ45 plugs on end.
normally the phone line connects to the phone in on modem and then use lan cable from modem/router one of the 4 ports on back to your computer.
you can get very long cables online liek from dx.com for like $12
and if house is new it might have it wired in the walls.. as the phone cables can use Cat5/6
and have an adpater cable like we have in our house
also asdl or vsdl need a line filter as voice on the same cable use the lower freqs and upper ones used for internet/modem. else if pick up phone without filter kills the internet connection without one
