mckenndk: The best way to make sure you are not getting a re-used number would be to get a new Skinny or maybe 2Degrees number and then port it to the network you want to use.

It was a new SIM card from 2 Degrees Mobile - I guess I'll have to change the number once again.

My number is a blatantly simple one (@johnr knows) and because of this I get so much spam. However, I also bait the spammers. Not a real excuse to change your number as this is more annoying again. Instead with me I just ignore spammy messages or use Android's block function if they come through more than once (after phoning them pretending to be "interested" in whatever they're trying to sell / scam me with).

I recall someone trying to sell 021234567 on trademe
ROTFLMAO they even had even gone to the trouble to Photoshop a sim pack

Not enough digits for a number that starts with 0212

may have been 021123.... from memory after looking it up it was a test or something account.. but that was a few years ago and after seeing that I reported it to TM

The views expressed by me are not necessarily those of my employer

021 1234567 is a valid number and belongs to a GZ member.

kawaii: Great, now I'm going to have to get a new number just to avoid the idiot.

Surely you just block the number in your phone or network settings?

You have a few options:

1. Reply with STOP. All senders in NZ have to comply with this request
2. If you receive another one after STOP then report to DIA

Changing numbers is really extreme. I wouldn't worry about it all. Worst case call the person and say "Hey I am not interested could you please remove me from your list?

Fabian: Work game me a new phone with a new number. My first phone call was from a guy who was asking for Gary, told him he had the wrong number and he said 'sweet as, do you know anyone else that can sell me some 'pot' '

Wanna sell me that number? It sounds like it already has an established client list and I have a friend who wishes to purchase an established distribution business.
