kiwigeek1: oh a apple user :D

real newbie then.

clearly didnt understand the replies.

you need to make it more clearer..

if you have it setup on mac sure it will download emails when its loaded there
espc if it sits in the bottom bar.. most things will auto check inbox every 10 mins by default
have you got it loaded on another device..?
check all devices where you use email and see if the message delete is on any of their inboxes

if only accessing web mail via all devices then no.. they all access the same account
and since its browser youre looking at the same inbox so shouldnt vanish

unless someome accessed your browser logged in on any of the other devices and delete it.

again check logs and security settings if thats not the case.

Sorry I should have been clearer. The thing is I mostly use the xtramail on the web and forgot that I had it set up on the mail app in the mac as i hardly open the app. I guess when when sometimes I accidentally open the app sync it and i close it straightaway making some emails disappear.

Thanks for the response. I will delete it from the mac and will only access via web mail only.

Cheers

Come on folks. There's no "newbie". Not everyone has to know how POP email works.

To the OP - don't feel intimidated by technology (and by some people). You don't have to remove your client configuration if you want to access via an app or program. Make sure you're not connected to the Internet, open the app/program and change the settings so that it leaves emails on the server.

If you configure an app/program in the future, remember to check the box "leave emails on the server" and you will be fine.

is there a good reason to have pop accounts anymore? the benefits of using any one of the free mail providers that allow you to also sync contacts, notes and your calendar far outweigh any reason other than keeping it open till you get around to closing it ...

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Not really, There is also no good reason to allow non TLS access, but plenty of providers do that too.

Its just legacy. No doubt some neckbeard somewhere is using some obscure mail client that only does pop3 and will whine if it is turned off.

What should happen is the mail clients should warn people when using it that nothing good will come from this and they should upgrade to a provider that supports imap.
