hey andrew

1. Yes i do have filters on. There is 2 jacks which are used. In the downstairs jack the phone line is plugged with the filter and upstairs adsl modem is plugged with the filter

2. I dont think there is master filter

3. there is no jack labelled dsl. the connections are in every room to plug in the phone line. So in the downstairs room i plugged in the phone and in the upstairs room i plugged in the internet with filters on both of them. In the filters where it says phone line i plugged in the phone and where it says adsl internet i plugged in the internet.

4. i have no idea how many jacks there are in the house but atleast 5 are there that i can remember so it will def be more than 5

5. The house is nearly 9-10 months old

And wouldn't it be nice to have a master/splitter filter at termination point and solve this problem??

Roh89:

[snip] upstairs adsl modem is plugged with the filter

First thing to do is remove that - never run the modem through a filter.

Having multiple jackpoints (regardless of whether they have something plugged into them) causes havoc with xDSL signals. Being a newish house, I take it you'd know if all the phone cables returned to a central point such as a patch panel or distribution board somewhere in the house?

@Runningman, he also said this:-   In the filters where it says phone line i plugged in the phone and where it says adsl internet i plugged in the internet

So, no problem with that 'filter' if he's using the ADSL socket.

Unless it's gone bad like the plug in ones frequently do and causing the issues described. It's simply not needed, and if faulty can give the precise symptoms the OP is having
