Mavarick:

As a sidenote  I am at the end of the coverage area on the Chorus map saying I can get VDSL

whats involved in getting a prequal?

currently on ADSL and get roughly 6 download and 0.6 upload one neighbor gets 20 download and another get 16-17

Once awhile ago I called Spark to see about upgrading and the guy was nice and honestly said I wouldn't get much more.

any help would be appreciated

Give that VDSL is location-dependent, you'll likely get very similar results as your neighbours (assuming a similar standard of equipment and wiring). With Spark, you can order the service via their site, and they'll do the prequal before going ahead with the install. If you can't get it, they'll let you know and cancel the order.

Given the numbers you quoted i would say

- Likely able to get vdsl

- Your internal wiring is not up to scratch at all.

Through spark, they should do a full VDSL installation, so you will get a master filter installed that would help things out alot regardless of if you stick on VDSL or not.

That's a shame really about the speed

Because I have cat 5e from the white box on the house direct to the modem and 4 hard wired cat 5e, one to my Nas one to the Satellite decoder and other 2 not is use  and WiFi for the phones n tablets, unless the modem is slowing down as its a few years old, but if they sort stuff out that will be better

cheers

Okay, let me get this straight.

You have a run from the ETP, straight to a single jackpoint over Cat5e, no other jackpoints connected to the ETP?

im only concerned with your DSL side, once its past your modem its all internal to your Connectivity there.

Post your DSL statistics from your modem too, ill see if anything jumps out.

line attenuation & snr figures listed?

Upstream looks good, thats generally a common indicator of a dodgy line. upstream is pretty low given the numbers you quoted above. but i cant draw conclusions past that.

Do remember to consider lead length when you compare neighbours, preferably pick iver side of you which im assume you did do with the numbers quoted.

Well this thread has me excited that I may now be able to get VDSL. Tried to early last year and failed as my attenuation was 11db. Hopefully may now be able to get upgraded, if I've understood correctly. Yay!

Cheers,
Joseph

Yeah, you should be fine if you're under 15, as long as there are no other extenuating circumstances.

Well partial success at least so far. The upgrade order has gone through successfully.

Well Chorus came today and reckoned I would get much more than the 5-7 download I already had,

anyway the swapped out the splitter and set the modem up ( I already had cat5e direct to the modem)

Boom they say I had 18 download and 1.2 upload, then congrats on above average ADSL speed

Did a speed test after they left and now its 16 download and 1.42 upload

so is over double what it was before. they did mention that 12 months ago they wouldn't even try an install in may area from ADSL to VDSL
