This is actually a fairly standard UFB install, based on what I've read and friends experiences. If anyone asked me I'd probably tell them to skip UFB for a couple of years until the procedures were worked out better. UFB has been around what 18 months, 2 years, the install process is still very mickey mouse.

Do you know if this also applies to a new house?  Soon we move into a new house, there is no copper on the subdivision so ADSL is not an option. Its UFB or nothing. I *think* the fiber just needs to be blown down the tube and terminated in a ONT.

Or are the problems only where it involves digging up driveways, etc.

Who knows with UFB. Could be really smooth, could take 2 years and multiple missed appointments. That's the problem, the uncertainty.

That's the theory. There could well be problems eg Chorus saying there's no fibre available at your location at all despite the fact that it is.

Just found Chorus's broadband checker, doesn't know our address but 2degrees address finder does.

Doesn't bode well.

Indeed.
I have a mate who built a new house - and I don't mean 'affordable' - on a new subdivision within five minutes walk of the big shopping mall in a major urban centre in the Wellington region. He tried really hard to get Spark to offer him broadband and a home-line, but Chorus kept on saying the street didn't exist, or if the street did exist then there wasn't a house with that number in the street, or Jupiter was mis-aligned with Mars, or ... [OK I made up the one about Jupiter!]. Months went by, the house progressed from a concrete slab to a two-storey palatio with every mod con known to kiwikind - except a phone or broadband.
Eventually my mate got desperate, and remembered that a former colleague of his was now 'something important at Chorus' and flicked him a quick "help!" email.

At about 8:30 the next morning, there was at the kerbside a Man In Overalls With A Chorus Van, and a Man In A Suit With A Car with a clipboard headed up "DIRECTOR'S ENQUIRY".
By lunchtime he had Broadband
By afternoon tea time he had a working phone

"It's not what you know, it's who you know"
frown

Edit: unmatched quotes
