Thanks for the help guys, also another thing I just wanted to add to this is that on ADSL we were getting 14 mbps down and 1 up, would anyone be able to estimate a distance from my cabinet using those numbers?

there is no way to know unless you actually know where the cable goes.

I know where my cable goes because the cabinet is 2 houses down and they have had to repair the cable in the past so ive seen where it was running so can measure the distance (about 75m to my splitter)

Would you be able to link a picture of one? so that I can see try to find it to see how far it is.

most are just green, and have yellow rectangles with black letters and numbers in the top left corner (their identifier)

Change the layers to show broadband, and see which shape area your house is in. if its a large area with darb brown and light brown then you are probably connected to an exchange, which are harder to find their locations but not impossible, then using this map:

change the layers to show cabinets and find the cabinet that is inside the shape area that corresponds to your house

just remember that cables dont go the most logical route and sometimes go down one side then loop back down the other.

my neighbour who is closer to the cabinet than i am has a longer cable length than me because the cable comes down to the far side of my place, up the pole then back along to the other side of their place. so that adds about 30m to the length of their cable.

The VDSL downstream attenuation of 21dB you posted in your first post suggests otherwise. I expect it's somewhat longer than that.

like i said the cable doesnt always take the shortest route and can double back or go via side streets before continuing along

it may very well do, but its a moot point as there is nothng you can do about that.

all you can do is make sure your premises wiring is up to scratch

I was told that the initial DLM is during the first 10 days after connecting, or port refresh, after that it periodically checks and adjusts if necessary.

DLM will determine the best profile for your connection.

First 10 days it polls every minute for 'reactions' after that it extends up to every day. (This is from an older set of notes so it could have changed with 998 although it does not seem so in practice)

DLM can be reset, however i personally would advise against it unless there is an extreme cause for it - Many of us have been hurt by DLM being reset due to being inpatient and oddities appearing on the line that often can lead to a slower rate.

A month or two (Most of this time is moves from DLM-2 to DLM-1), and the line should be totally settled into its new standings.

Hey if anyone is still here, I need some help... this is really weird but I restarted my router and lost 13 mbps... tried different filter, different router although the same model and different DSL cable, so basically before I was getting 33 mbps now I'm getting 20 :/

limit the amount of times you reconnect your modem, this really has an impact on DLM and your connection speed

You might have to wait over a month for it to come back
