Yeah, I'd give up a little downstream speed for upstream. If it doesn't improve things then it'll be back to ADSL2. At least on ADSL2 I should get 1Mbps upstream.

Can't wait until fibre is here.....bring on June 2018......that just feels like a long time away....

the use of the 998 band with US0 enabled was intended to bridge this gap slightly.

Power levels are different however to what you see on ADSL2+, so the net speed from US0 is a tad lower.

In most situations US1 is where you get all the speedboost from VDSL, which is after the first Downstream band. Obviously being higher up there, distance affects it more.

As others have pointed out, if you have a ADSL rated filter it typically causes bad cutoff points in the specturm past ADSL ranges.

Ok, so I checked out the ETP and no filter, but no closer inspection the VDSL is coming in on separate pair of wires. It could be that the other pair is for the flat below (not sure further investigation is required). Either way there's nothing else on same pair of wires that I can tell.

So far my experience with VDSL is from far great. Touted speeds of 15-60Mbps down, and 5-15Mbps up. I would have expected ratio's like 15/5 & 60/15, so at 20Mbps down I'd get somewhere between 5-6mbps up.

But you are outside the range required for the touted speeds. The downsteam attenuation of 26dB is simply too high - it indicates your line is just too long, and probably shouldn't have been provisioned with VDSL - ADSL2+ may be more reliable for you on this line length. Upstream is often the first to suffer, as you've found out.

they were the old estimated speeds before the bandplan upgrade which messed with it.

at your attenuation and apparent distance dont expect too much

incorrect, 997 had fixed limit of 10mbit.

15~60 5~15 is conservative midrange speeds to be expected of VDSL.

Technically it should say up to 100/50 much like adsl is up to 24/1

Quick update:

So I'm about 1km from the exchange, so I think that I'm well within the required distance for VDSL. Just waiting to see what the ISP says now.

in an urban area, 1KM is essentially the limit, in a Rural area not so much. You need to consider all the variables, Noise in the bundle and all.

You may be 1km from the exchange, but do you know how long the cable is, what route it takes? That 26dB attenuation suggests much more than 1km of cable length - too long for reliable VDSL.

you could also have horrible quality copper cable there too, or bridge taps or as others have mentioned it could go a completely different route to your house than you think.

what do you think your ISP will do?
