Must be a different model from the one I thought it was then.

This B315s-22 I think does do SMS which I'd want to use for home automation.

The Skinny/Spark firmware has less features than other Huawei modems I have used.

if you want it for HA, I'd recommend something like a UMTS module for your stack. (Avoid GSM as then your better future-proofed and able to use all 3 networks)

Ok talked to someone from Spark who said that the bundle that they provide does not provision SMS.  So, I could put a mobile phone sim card in it to get SMS but then I would be paying the usual rates for data.

I've checked my Skinny 4G router - no SMS menu.

For what it's worth, I got a Skinny B315 for the other property.  I needed anything there to receive the data from the in wall probes that measure humidity and temperature that go a cloud monitoring service in the USA.

And I got really fed up with Vodafone's Fibrex service at home which kept disconnecting me.  I spoke with their customer retention and got a B315s-617 as well but cut back the speed and data on the fibrex so I end up paying about the same but with redundancy.

And the interesting thing is that I have an SMS menu on the Vodafone device which allows me to send and receive SMS.  And I got a telephone cable as well but as I already have a copper line, I'm keeping that for the moment.

Now to figure out how to get Alexa to send SMS using my B315 ...

PS: vodafone told me I can take the 4g modem anywhere they have service.  Apparently people take them to their bach's but since I don't have a bach I won't be able to do that!

It doesn't look quite as casual in the T&Cs

"10 You can only use your Home Wireless Broadband modem at the location you specify when you sign up for Home Wireless Broadband. The reason for this is that Vodafone needs to manage the network to ensure that it provides Vodafone customers with a reliable and consistent service. If we identify that you have used the modem at any address other than the specified location, Vodafone may terminate this agreement at its sole discretion.

11 If you would like to use the Home Wireless Broadband modem in another location, please call Customer Services who will let you know whether or not that is possible."

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Hopefully, the conversation will have been recorded for training purposes!
