Hello everyone,
first post on geekfourms...

I currently am an employee of telecom but due to privacy reasons i will not state for which dept. i work in.
As far as I am aware, every telecom employee gets the same package known as "telecom 4 u"
I don't think employees who work in the retail stores get this deal.

This includes:
- One free 027 mobile every two years of employement valued upto $350 (unless you want pay the difference for something more expensive).
- Free Lanline Rental (Anytime Plus Only) Valued at around $50
- Free Broadband Xtra Go 3GB $39.95 (pay the difference for plans that are more expensive)
- $50 towards your bill (which can be split either into 50% towards usage and 50% rental OR 100% usage OR 100% rental)
- Free Mobile Monthly plan (200 Minutes per month) - not sure on the value of this.

I have been with telecom for over a year now and at this stage the list above is the ONLY reason why i am still working for them.
Hope this gives you an insight into what we get.

Better change your signature then.

All Telecom staff get this deal, however mobile can be variabe, it is really just an extention of their remuneration.

Drinks+nibbles every Friday night - someone would walk around offering wine and beer from around 3.30pm depending on how busy and productive the week was.

Budget was always available to go and do 'stuff', and Gen-i would often match the social clubs contribution $ for $ for major events on the social calendar.

Why the hell did you leave? :-)

'Some' of you need to seriously get over it.

I have worked for Gen-i for 14months now and I'm not in it just for the perks (it helps) but the loyalty they give you as an employee is outstanding. As Tony put it, the Friday drinks, offsites/conferences and of course the annual salary is just a minor attraction to becoming an employee of Telecom. I have never been so looked after by anyone... EVER! (ps - yes I am single)

Story: When I first started my new role in Wellington I had a week of training with my team leader. The following week they flew me up to Auckland for further training with the rest of my team. Unfortunately during this second week my grandfather become extremely ill with lung cancer and even though I had only worked for the company for 8 days, they flew me to my home town (go Hawkes Bay!) to spend the final days with my family while he was passing away. They flew me back to Wellington over a week later to completely start in my role at no cost and at full wage. Did they have to do it, NO, did they want to help me out, YES!... and this be why I love them because they are very work/life balance orientated and hey, thats what we all need right? A bit of work/life balance is important!

Thats kind of sad....

Thats kind of career limiting, depending on what the signature used to say, and who saw it. (I missed it, and so did Googles cache).

An office merger coming up soon would have had me working side by side with my fiance all day every day (Not what I want). I have many regrets about leaving, what a fantastic workplace!!

I work for telecom.. they give me good benefits, bad coffees and insane work hours. :D
Personally i think if im doing a rollout after midnight they should pay me double time but oh well...

I agree, so you're far from alone on that one. They look after me very well, and my managers are always willing to help further ones career, which I will be taking up, if all, goes to plans with regard to finishing my studies towards the end of the month.

Do I recommend Telecom as an employer to anyone I come across? Absolutely!

Do I recommend Telecom as an employer to anyone I come across? Absolutely!

hell yeh.. specially when they give me an *sizeable* payout just for referrals... just recieved my first last week.
Gotta love it!!

Sheraton : Discounted room rate anywhere in the world
IHUG : Free dialup (b4 DSL), then special deal on IHUG Ultra with IHUG TV
Quicksilver : Free dialup and discounted DSL
EDS : Hmm.... zilch.
Easyware : 20hr weeks :)

And where I am now, free A+/Network+/MCSE/MCSA training and exams.

So Xtra/Telecom giving staff free net etc is pretty standard really.

hehe Well if u were on the EDS AAPT helpdesk then you get the same benefits dont u? or you did anyway but yes normal EDS staff get zip except maybe outsourced?
