I don't get these comments the purpose of roaming is to keep the same number further to this like to see you use a corporate APN

Your mistake is to assume everyone has the same requirements as yourself.

Well then you don't need roaming so why post? Roaming is a service / feature it's not to beat local pricing so you don't buy a local SIM

500MB a week doesn't even begin to cut it while on holiday o'seas - you're on Google Maps all day and uploading pics / vids. A good start but i'll always go with a local data sim. Way better value.

I would like to use roaming to avoid the hassle of changing my sim, but it is many multiples the cost of a local sim.

I did not say it should be the same price. They should charge more, to cover costs and make a profit off the call interchange and billing systems.

Until the cost comes down further, it is still in my interest to buy a local sim.

You could always buy several $15 500MB packs, you aren't limited to just one

Correct, prepaid roam as well, why should they be disadvantaged.

100% incorrect, not sure where you got that from. You can buy as many packs as you like if you go through an allocation. Or buy the 500MB $15 data only pack.

This would be me.

I currently have "local" numbers in Australia and Canada so I can buy data like a local......for cheap.

My NZ phone is on and can receive calls (or make calls).....they are relatively cheap as I'm not a big talker. Two minutes, max, per call and few of them.

But for watching Netflix in a hotel in Sydney or Toronto you really need a local data bundle.

The only thing that would still tempt me to use my UK SIM for roaming is the local number in UK, and EU roaming

Using a UK SIM in Europe now is a no brainer with roaming prices being slashed in Europe - primaraily for the massive improvement in data performance if you're relying on as a primary connection.

I'm on Voda prepay...we are going to Canada in Jan and if they don't have something sorted by December they'll lose me as a customer. The $20 deal sounds perfect for us since we will have free wifi in most places.
