I thought My Republic used DHCP rather than PPPoE??

 

 

They sure do, that's why I need to change the WAN Connection Type.

I started with a factory reset on the ASUS firmware and did see some improvement (363 Mbps). I then tried Asuswrt-Merlin v380.68_4 with this result:

 

 

I think its safe to say that this ASUS router is gig capable. I don't seem to have lost any capability with this so will stick with it. Have logged it with ASUS out of pure curiosity though.

Which pretty much explains the difference - the router is severely underpowered either CPU or firmware wise and is choking with the PPPoE encapsulation.
