hio77:
disable wifi then try again.
Looks like your connecting fine but it's prefering wifi.
i tried disabling the wifi adapter, lan still won't connect to internet.
hio77:
how many devices are connected to the modem? Wifi included.
I logged into the modem, it says connected devices: 5.
That would be 2 phones, the PC via wireless and my TV, and the only wired lan connection being the PC.

hm, that checks out normal.
So your getting a IP address, you appear to be routable. Below any conditional values.
Have you tried a full reboot of modem + computer?

Any comments made are personal opinion and do not reflect directly on the position my current or past employers may have.
And presumably in that ipconfig screenshot your IP of 192.168.1.66 was manually assigned?
I guess it could still be a hardware issue in that case.
arcon:
My Fibremax is working over Wifi with the HG659b anywhere, but not over lan. Lan1 is connected from the modem to my workstation's GbE port & green lit. It can't be a house wiring issue as the modem's internet is working in my room... it must be a PC config issue yes?
Seems to me you have access via WifI (i.e.) of the guest network without probs and the LAN network has a different IP space or is set-up without DHCP.

PhantomNVD: Scratch that, your dhcp is issueing correctly... does your firewall have a config issue? Disable that for a minute and see what happens?
Have tried disabling Firewall, no change. It says no packets received, diagnoses as not having a valid TCPIP config. its all set to auto.
Can't be a modem config issue as the other win7 PC runs ok via lan... weird.
Btw the ethernet port definitely does work, I frequently transfer files to an old laptop via GbE.
Keep calm, and carry on posting.

No matter where you go, there you are.
It's not an Acer PC is it?
We have a few at work, and the most common issue with them is the onboard LAN cards stop receiving packets. Even when configured correctly with a manual IP address.
The other thing you could try is in an elevated command prompt (run as administrator):
netsh int ip reset log.txt
then:
netsh winsock reset
and reboot the computer.
something curious, checking the network connection properties for each connection, some info is different from IPconfig. eg. the subnet mask for the lan seems to be 255.255.0.0, not 255.255.255.0 as is mentioned in IPconfig & wireless. So that's never going to work right?
LAN (left), wireless (right)
The 169.254.x.x address means that your computer is not getting an IP address via DHCP. That range and subnet are given as the 'I can't see a DHCP server' addresses by Windows.
Have you tried the netsh commands above?
It does sound as if your computers LAN port is stuffed. Or the cable.
You did say you have tried another LAN device on the same cable?

Tried the netsh commands no change. Yes both the cable and port are good. I can also see the PC listed as a connected ethernet device in the modem gui.
Does the modem GUI tell you what IP address it has given the PC over ethernet.
As above, your PC has not got a valid IP address from the modem, and has given itself the 169.254.x.x one.
Have you tried another modem?
I still think your PC's LAN card is stuffed.
Just to get it straight.
What diagnostics have you done?
Have you tried another Ethernet device (ie., NOT your PC) on that cable? Does it get a valid IP address (not 169.254.x.x)
Have you tried another Modem?
Have you tried a different cable direct to the Modem?
Have you tried a factory reset on the Modem?
