Interestingly with the recent Chinese message calls originating from Auckland numbers @ajobbins yesterday had a message on his Google Voice US number showing an incorrectly formatted NZ CID.

Same as mine. Shifting 0s makes all the difference

I got one to my work mobile on Friday from +61403604886 which looks like a valid Australian mobile number. It was some guy purportedly trying to sell some sort of amazing opportunity in the share market. The concerning thing was that the caller knew my full name - I don't know how they got that info as I am not in the habit of giving my work number out or using it for online forms etc. I also have no interest in the stock market so I would certainly not have given it out for that purpose.

My girlfriend and I have also received a lot of calls from +44 UK numbers in the last week or so. We haven't answered those as neither of us know anyone in the UK that would want to call us.

I get this about once a week, the caller speaks far better english than they understand as you can say almost anythign to them and they continue with the pitch

Yep - On Friday - Had just bought a new phone and had to swap to a smaller SIM- Had just completed that process and the phone went. Took a while for the person at the other end to start the 'Speech'. Was from a +4420 number - Just said No thanks and hung up on him.

He used my first name though - I am not sure if I said my name when I answered - Maybe I did.

Yep I been getting a few which is annoying because I know not to call them back, but I also have some real overseas calls I do need to return.. Hard to know which ones are safe now and which ones will end up on my bill..

I get these too - Aus and UK prefixes. I never answer unknown international numbers. If someone needs to get hold of me they will leave a voice mail message. Ditto private numbers.

I installed the App truecaller on my phone and I can block all calls from England and Aust. so that seems to keep them at bay. However saying that I got a call from a 021 number that was some pre-recorded Chineses message about hell if I know.

I don't suppose Spark can block fake CUIDs or some such to weed these fake calls out?
