Hmmm, I remember Spark (Telecom back then) D2D sales back like 10 years ago... They have been using them for years..

I have always found them the better ones out of the lot when they came round in the past. I would also say there is a dedicated 0800 number for complaints or queries that hits a team skilled in what they are doing out in the streets..

Yes D2D sales can be a pain but let's be real here.. I can have worse service in a shop than seeing someone at my door. Also remember these guys are making a living just like the rest of us and are more than likely on a 100% commission pay.

Like others, until they do something wrong lets not instantly bag them aye..

do you have that 0800 complaints line number? Spark help desk people tell me there is no complaints team. I'm having a dog of a time with their business services. See https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=39&topicid=239740  and https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=39&topicid=239739

Your query does not seem to relate to D2D sales, which is purely what the referenced number is for.

For complaints, i welcome you to use the official complains process.

https://store.spark.co.nz/forms/s/complaints

This links it into the correct teams to look after it, ensures management eyes are over etc.

i would simply ask, use it for a valid complaint not a i was unhappy i spoke to a non kiwi sounding rep on the phone sorta thing...

Please don't derail this thread from the topic.

Oh for the good old days when the Post Office owned all the phones:

Fone

In 1881 Post Office + Telegraph Department > P&T (Post & Telegraph - government department) > NZPO/Telecom NZ > Spark.

Oh for the good old days when the gummint owned all the telegraphs. 😀

Sorry, I know this is OT but a random factoid I just saw regarding P&T which fascinated me:

“In March 1914 the Post and Telegraph Department had 5637 ‘classified’ (permanent) staff – more than the rest of the public service put together – and a total of almost 8000 employees. This was a large organisation in a country with fewer than half a million paid workers.”

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Wasnt that long ago there was a company called voda something, they had taken over bellsouth mobile and then launched into landline/internet thingys.... D2D people everywhere trying to convince peoples to switch from the telecom outfit.

and here we are.....multiple companies trying to resell the same thing.....

Is the new version of D2D simply digital marketing?..... i.e. catch you with a spin.

At the end of the day, its up to you to read the small print...be it from a D2D or digital campaign.

Soon as a D2D sales rep for any internet company appears, I just say straight away, "not interested, you cant offer me anything more than Im already getting, and I work in IT so dont start with "tech" sales pitch".

Clickbait thread title much? - you make it sound like Spark have actually done something wrong or aggrieved you in some way, when in fact they are just engaging in a legitimate business practice used by hundreds of companies.

As others have already stated, Spark has always been active in the D2D space, so it's hardly 'a new low' as you so eloquently put it. If you don't like D2D sales, that's cool - order some free Do Not Knock stickers for yourself and your family, and then move on with your life.

Door to door sales people.. Really Spark? I expect that from garbage tier outfits like Trustpower and My Republic, but I expected better of you.

I don't think I can in good conscience recommend you to anyone now, even the mum and dad crowd who I usually direct your way.

I think it is unfair to call trustpower garbage. They offer a different product and they appear to be doing well as a company.

There is a lot of dislike against trustpower here though.eg, google this...

I don't agree with much of it.

But, your opinion.

This is exactly what we have. The only thing about the stickers are they are quite small, with salespeople claiming they didn't see them. I solved that by scanning, enlarging and reprinting them.
Any salespeople are met with a firm "We have do-not-knock signs, leave my property immediately".

While door to door sellers can be an inconvenience I think it's a long stretch to assume that they're all engaging in a dodgy activity. I don't have the do not call stickers on the door, and happy to politely just tell them "no thanks, I'm not interested" ... There isn't any need to be rude to them at all - for the most part, they're just people like the rest of us, they've taken what might be the only job they can get at this point in time and at least they're working...

I honestly don't mind D2D sales at all, as long as the people are friendly, they are knowledgeable about the product they are selling, being honest, and know how to take no for an answer.

Now I read that, it is a bit to ask haha. embarassed

Ak suburb : had to go on a waiting list for a phone , then get given a party line: where you share the line with you neighbours (and they could & did listen in) . Had this at 2 addresses back in the day.
All because they wouldnt spend the $ to upgrade the exchange....they didnt have to: no competition .

Cant see the issue with door to door selling.
Just say "Not interested" & close the door, its not a big deal.

When I first came to live in New Zealand, I didn't know what to make of the door knockers and cold callers. This kind of thing is illegal where I come from and we never had to put up with it. I am still amazed that there is so much tolerance for it here. People seem to think some have a right to invade the privacy of others in their own homes as long as they are engaged in a commercial activity. I frankly still don't understand this, also the lack of responsibility for companies to take back and recycle the things they sell. Elsewhere supermarkets have to accept bottles that have deposits on them and any place that sells batteries is required to have a container where used up ones can be returned. New Zealand seems to be fairly backward in this regard.

Trustpower's D2D salesmen in my area were straight out liars and scammers. It's put me off 1) Trustpower, 2) All D2D salesmen, 3) Any/all salesmen who talk with an accent or to their colleagues in a foreign language in front of me.

All D2D salesmen and associated companies now get lumped with Trustpower's reputation in my mind. That might technically be unfair, but once bitten, twice shy.

If your spider senses are telling you something isn't right - walk away! I didn't and once I determined that I had indeed been lied to the cooling off period had lapsed by 3 days and Trustpower threatened me with $925 break fees when their service hadn't even commenced. Even told me I had to pay for UFB install even though my previous ISP had installed it. I now have 41 days until I am out of contract with them, so shopping around. Yay!

in the past the carbon copy piece of paper I've signed has provided written evidence that has saved me (no our sales man never said that -> yes he did and he wrote it here!) - this time it was a digital signature on an Ipad and I had no tangible proof, so walk away from that caper as well.
