It's great to see a positive thread for once.

Live it up while you can. As they add new customers to the same tower as you speeds will decline. You may or may not want to tell your neighbours how wonderful Spark wireless is.

Jase2985: i imagine when they roll out 10Gig connetions to the cellphone towers then there might be higher caps to ensure there is enough back haul

Already a few cell sites on 10G backhaul, it's a fairly trivial change for a lot of sites to upgrade to 10G.

If your still on the B315s i'd see if you can't possibly switch to the 240GB plan with the B618.

It does CA, i forget from memory what the peak rate is.. 450 or 600mbit from memory.

The network teams are doing massive work lately, looking at the maps i see new towers popping up everywhere.

I expect once the key areas in work are done, we will see very little "congested" areas as typically it's adding more bandwidth there.

You will probably notice a few roadside lamppost towers about - those are the flashy new infills.

Particularly the urban areas bandwidth available can spike far up. likes of northshore has just about every frequency loaded up on many of those towers.

on a high end devices, i've seen spikes in the gbit range on tests.

towers when they first go up are generally L700 + L1800. past there it's heavily dependent on future plans, enviroment etc on if it's more of those carriers or going to the likes of L2300 or L2600.

nakedmolerat: now they need to have bigger data cap.

rural for us only max 240GB for now. and you can only add another 60GB more.

willing to pay more for bigger data cap but no option for now.

I know its expensive but could you order multiple connections and just swap the modems out?

I'm puzzled why you needed to use powerline gear. I'm guessing there must be a reason that the wireless modem couldn't be in the same room as your PC?

Yeah, the modem performance is influenced by the direction of the nearest cell tower. For me, that involves having the modem in the far western corner of the house - a spare storage / dressing room, while my office is facing east & far enough away from the modem to be suffering some WiFi degradation.

The Netgear Powerline 2000 kit solved the problem without issue, & because the TV is on the other side of my office wall it has wired interwebs too.

I did have an EX 7500 extender until lightning hit the junction box 2 months ago. Turned all the lights on at my neighbours house at 5am, melted every one of his light switches & fried his desktop PSU. My only damage was the dead Nighthawk.

I'm looking at the wireless service from Skinny, which I believe is Spark in drag or no?

Skinny tells me that the signal at the intended address is rated 'powerful' in their system. But I happen to have a set of the late model TP-Link powerline adapters which worked well for me in a previous VDSL environment, so they could come in handy.

5G standard has peak data rate at 20Gbps (also heard that the Spark/Huawei demo came close to this). yes, you pretty much have to get all the ducks lined up in a row to achieve that.

So while no residential/consumer application absolutely needs it (per today's standard uses), a lot will want it.

nice to hear good news once in a while.

i expect given a decent chunk of 3.5GHz we will see offloading to 5ghz occur particularly for FWA.

I am so looking forward to filling a micro-SD card to overflowing within seconds - just because I can.

There’s an associated wave of technology improvements required for such massive data flows. Micro SD cards of 256GB will be next to useless, 2TB or bigger please. That’s if we even store locally, Cloud storage at 5G speed will be totally seamless.

Hard drives are going to have to learn to write real fast, & huge RAM will be standard by necessity.

We’ll be utilizing ultra-high fidelity audio files, better than SACD quality, & that’s going to require new DAC processors - amongst many other required changes.

Initially there will be hardware that copes with the data flow, followed by a new generation that takes advantage of it.

A 120Gb cap and 50mb/s would be perfectly adequate for my needs. I just wish Spark would add some capacity in southern Wellington so that I could actually get a FWA connection!

this is interesting. i have not thought of that. @hio77 can you have multiple connection under different resident for rural broadband from the same address??

No functionality will stop you; Apart from a stopsell ofcourse.

In saying that if your only using one at a time overal network utilization shouldn't really differ which would leave stopsells not really changing from you having two.
