Hey

Is there going to be the option to turn interleaving on or off?

Will there be the option to have higher caps but get capped to 64k if we go over instead of having to pay 2 cents per Meg

Dr Reynolds,

Exactly how certain are the call center rolls here in New Zealand? Ie what departments, 123, 126, new and move, broadband, etc are potentially going to be shifted? From the YahooXtra homepage today:

"Trish Keith said the trials, which would run from September to December, reflected Telecom's desire to put customers at "the heart" of the business.

It's got nothing to do with heart, its to do with profits.

Having such a position and dealing with so many demands - from the public, govt. and within the organisation you work for (at the time) what have you found to be one of the most challenging parts of your role and how have you/do you plan to overcome some of those challenges?

Also - can I borrow your copy of Building your Company's Vision by Jon Collins cause I cant find it anywhere.

A few simple questions that effects 100's of customers.
With Telecom due to roll out a HSDPA network, what will happen to the 70,000 plus Data only products, a large number used in remote locations for Telemetry on the CDMA network.

Should anyone continue to develope data solutions on CDMA, if yes how long will the network be available if not what products are available to start development for HSDPA.

In the new environment of structural separation, why is there still inconsistencies in getting service from Telecoms retail arm Vs the wholesale product through an alternative ISP? A case in point:

- Attempted to sign up a customer for broadband through an alternative ISP. Order was rejected. I had a very good idea on what the issue was preventing successful provisioning, and so feed this info back via the ISP for resolution. The order kept getting rejected, six times I believe.
- Signed up the customer through Telecom Broadband. Order was accepted first time and activated. Broadband did not work (due to above issue), however on first logging the "failed install" with Telecom Broadband, they jumped straight in to troubleshooting the issue: a cable fault (as know from above).
- Telecom then addressed the cabling issue, problem solved, customer on broadband.
- Now moving customer to orignal ISP

This scenario has be common practise in my experience for the past 5 years. Clearly, this is still an issue that needs to be addressed so that alternative ISP's get treated the same as Telecom Retail.

If high data prices is due to the expensive cable, could you explain the following:

1) The refusal to differentiate between international and national traffic.
2) The fact that most English countries have a small internet 'community' and pull most of their information from the US, and yet, they don't have extraudinarily high prices; the pipe from the UK to the US would have cost a pretty penny, just as the one from Australia to the US too - or infact, Singapore, Korea, Japan etc which all have lower pricing. All of which require an 'expensive pipe'.

Telecom have still said very little about their VoIP plans. Is there anything you can say about this at present and the timeframe for product launches?

Given the utility attribution regularly given to Telecom, and the now legislated nature of communications services as a commodity, is there any reason why the 'pay to connect and per use' model of other network utility commodity providers, such as gas, electricity, water, etc., should not continue to prevail in New Zealand, or why it is unlikely to take hold in other countries with simlar markets, such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Chile, Hull, etc.?

If the answer for New Zealand is YES, will that result in Telecom becoming a cost-plus retailer, or will it fight to differentiate for price purposes on some attribute of its delivery, and if so, which attribute is the most likely candidate?

I thought it was a fairly weak one actually. In true style they cannot say anything too confidential. It almost looks like those answers were vetted by their PR office.

but yeah, maybe I'm just bitter as my questions weren't asked..

To think that the CEO of Telecom would post comments without being vetted first is alittle naive - a company of that size needs to maintain a consistent public face, hence the PR office.
